General Safety Requirements

All scaffolds are erected, modified, and


dismantled by qualified individuals: no
exceptions!
Housekeeping is just as important on scaffolds
as it is on floors and aisleways
Follow the scaffold tagging procedure

What To Look for in a Scaffold


Footings that are sound and rigid
Guardrails that are 2 x 4 and 3 to 3-1/2 feet
high
Guardrail supports every 10 feet on all open
sides
Toeboards that are 4 high on all open sides
Cross braces on metal

Keep only the materials you need on a
scaffold.

of a scaffold.

Ladder Placement

Place ladder on level surface.


Extend the ladder so theres at least 3 feet above the
top support.
Anchor the top and either tie the bottom or have
someone hold it.
Position ladder using
4:1
ratio.

Only one person on a ladder at a
time.
Face the ladder while climbing up or
down and hold the side rails with
both hands.
Carry tools up or down on a belt or
with a rope or hoist, not in
your hands.
Maintain 3-point contact
while climbing the ladder:

foot in transition.
