(6/6 marks example response)
One Christian perspective is that the Bible doesn't mention homosexuality as we know it today, but as if the word itself is interchangeable with promiscuity. Therefore, it is not a choice based on religion, but on personal perspective, as to whether homosexuality is acceptable. In Corintians 6:9 it says don't you realise that those who do wrong will not inherit the kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin...or commit adultery...or practice homosexuality. Due to the fact that homosexuality had a different meaning in the time that this was written, it cannot count as evidence either for or against the idea of homosexuality. Therefore, some Christians believe that it is not a decision which can be made strictly as a result of Christian teachings. However, another Christian may say that God has a hatred of homosexuality, so it cannot be accepted or allowed. In the Bible, it tells the story of two cities: Sodom and Gomorrah; in which both cities were inhabited by homosexuals. God thought that these people were wicked beings, so destroyed both cities. Following the teachings of this story, some Christians hold the view that homosexuality is wrong. Although, there are some groups within Christianity which feel that everybody should be loved regardless -therefore Christians should be perfectly fine with homosexuality, not passing judgement. This is partly due to Jesus for he did not prejudge or discriminate and even dined with sinners. Christians could contribute this as evidence towards the argument that Christianity is not against homosexuality. To further reinforce: Could contribute the idea that homosexuality is viewed as a sin in the Catholic church. Mention how some Christian dominations hold the view that homosexual people are acceptable, but the practising of homosexual acts is a sin.
