WTNH is by far the most significant story in the sense that it provides the most amount of information on the case in comparison to the other two news sources. CBS is the only source that has stated that the firefighter is being placed on administrative leave. The fact that Burgos was a veteran firefighter was only indicated once, at the end of the story.

Are there any differences in
content with other news sources?
WTNH is by far the most
significant story in the sense that it provides the most amount of information on the case in comparison to the other two news sources. As shown in 1.9, the Times provides the exact individual who provided the quote, showing the story as more reliable. WTNH provides a good story through giving the history of the case rather than just straight out explaining it.
CBS is the only provider that has
stated that the firefighter is being placed on administrative leave and the fact that Burgos was in fact the victims Power of Attorney, as was stripped of this role following the incident. CBS is also the only source that has the quote And for someone to take advantage of a woman who was then 90 years old and continue that for five years, it just shakes all of us. This allows the fire brigade to give themself a better stance and more positive look.
The Hartford Courant was the
only news source to get a quote from Achilles Generoso, New Haven's assistant chief of detectives, who quoted When someone abuses their authority to take advantage of someone so vulnerable, we are all shaken. I want to personally thank the firefighters who, without hesitation, came forward with what they'd learned. Using this as a closing statement really victimises Burgos, however it is still neutral as the news provider does not quote it themselves.
How does news report portray
the public service/s?
This news report does a lot to
respect the fire services through very much pointing the finger at the fire fighter who committed the crime, rather than at the entire public services organisation. Throughout the story, the fact that Burgos was a veteran firefighter was only indicated once, at the beginning.
Again, this article purely places
the blame on Kenneth Burgos rather than the fire services as a whole as it was predominantly a private matter and had very little to do with the firemans job. The quote Police say the firefighter believed the woman was an easy target because she was elderly and living alone. does again mention that he is a firefighter but does not present any negativity towards the fire services as a whole.
With the final closing statement
given by the Hartford Courant, it is defiantly the provider which presents the most negative view on the fire services. In addition to this, the article reiterates that the person committing the crime was a firefigher, embedding that fact in every paragraph. This may be an issue for the New Haven fire department and may be detrimental for the trust amongst their citizens.
What impact might it have on
societies views of the public service/s
This case and story should make
members and citizens of New Haven have more trust in their fire services due to the responsibility that was taken by the fire department and how they handled the situation.
This story again does not present
any detriments towards the New Haven Fire Department but it can definitely make the citizens in New Haven question the safety of public servants entering their homes, presenting a trust issue.
This story can present a
detrimental effect towards the New Haven Fire Department as the story indicates how easily public servants can abuse their authority. This can lower the trust amongst citizens dramatically.
What is your opinion of the
quality of this news report?
I believe that the report given by
WTNH is very professional as each point is backed up with the necessary evidence and it goes into a great deal of detail, giving the entire story including the history, the story and how the case is currentlyy being handled.
I do think that this report does
present the story fairly, however I would not say that it is a professional report due to it's length and small range of quotes. It does not provide the necessary details for readers to understand the full story, potentially getting them caught up in their thoughts to believe something that really might not be the case. In addition to this there was really a lack of figures, which is what makes the article from WTNH better.
I believe that this report is a very
causal and not enough evidence nor detail is presented for it to be fully reliable. Only one quote is provided, and it is essentially half of the report. The closing statement does not present a very professional manner as it is unjustified and no detail is given.
