7 Ways of Looking at a Robin
1. Flame-colored breast,
Plump with excitement,
Hopping from branch to branch.
Nothing brings you down.
2. Shut up, Robin.
Your call is incessant
And loud outside my window.
I am not ready to wake up.
3. Worms are out,
And so are the Robins,
Scurrying to get breakfast, beak punctures soil,
Can you hear them underground?
4. Pale, blue eggs sit in a nest,
Mother and father watching close-by.
Dont get too near.
These are protective parents.
5. First Robin of the Spring,
Warm days are coming.
The Robin moves in,
And Autumn knows it is time to pack.
6. Bird shit on my just-cleaned windshield.
Was it you, Robin?
You sit and call, above on your perch
Just to torment me.
7. With the dawn comes your song.
You are first to rise.
Cheer up, cheerily,
You tell me, as I start my morning.

Robin, doomed to be the sidekick.

But, with your brilliant blue eggs
And cheerful call,
You are not a bird to be overlooked.
