173 Russell Senate Office Building Washington D.C., 20510 RE: Continued Support for Opposition to Development at Cherry Point Honorable Murray, The Lummi Nation has openly and unconditional and unequivocal opposed the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point. As, you maybe aware efforts by Congressmen Ryan Zinke (R) of Montana, has tried to undermine the treaty rights of the Lummi Nation. I ask you as a member of the Lummi Nation to consider and openly oppose any and all development at Cherry Point. As well, as challenge Zinkes claims that Treaty Rights shouldnt be considered in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers future decision the Terminal. For the past 4 years and beyond the Lummi Nation has made efforts to protect the Salish Sea which has allowed the Lummi Nation to continue to exercise Treaty Rights guaranteed to us by the signing of my ancestors to the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott; by guaranteeing the right to fish and hunt at usual and accustomed areas as stated in the Treaty. Treaties as outlined in, Article VI of the U.S. Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land. It would violate the U.S. Constitution if Treaty Rights were ignored. Again, I ask you to support Lummi Nation efforts in opposing Cherry Point proposed development and the proposed project known as the Gateway Pacific Terminal. Respectfully,
