David LaChapelle

David LaChapelle began his career at the age of 17 years old, when Andy
Warhol offered him a job working as a photographer for Interview magazine. From
this point on, his work gained a lot of attention, and he went on to shoot other
covers for magazines like Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Vogue Italia, and GQ.
LaChapelle has also worked on several books, such as Hotel LaChapelle, and
Heaven to Hell. His most heavy influences are Andrea Pozzo and Caravaggio.
LaChapelles work is very abstract and colorful.

One of his most controversial pieces was the Kissing Sailors advertisement
for Diesel. This photograph featured two sailors kissing, and was one of the first
public advertisements showing a gay couple kissing. It was mostly controversial
because it was released at a time where the government decided to ban
homosexuals from military service.

After being released from prison, Tupac and LaChapelle did the Becoming
Clean photoshoot. The motive of this shoot was to show Tupacs change in lifestyle.
This is a captivating photo because of how innocent Tupac looks and the theme of
rebirth and cleansing. The amount of light used is adequate and makes his skin look
smooth. LaChapelle enjoyed working with Tupac and enjoyed his presence.

LaChapelle shot this as a part of his Passion of The Christ photoshoot with
Kanye West. LaChapelle originally turned Kanye on to the theme of Christ and Jesus.
This photo emphasizes religion and is makes Kanye look young. The red background
originally drew me to this photo because the red looks good behind him and
accentuates his smooth skin.

This photo was part of the 2012 Mac Viva Glam charity photoshoot for Mac
Cosmetics. This event was for raising money to cure AIDS. This photo has a lot of
color, and her makeup is bold. The background makes them stand out, and that
makes her dress look better.
