Woman: Excuse me, can you tell me the way to the post office please?
Man: Yes. Go along this street and turn right. The post office is on the left
hand side.
Woman: Turn right and its on the left. Thank you!
Man: Youre welcome
Man: Yes.
Woman: Thats fine. Ill arrange that for you.
Woman: Hello. Id like some information about the city tours please.
Man: Certainly. The tours will take you by bus to all the most famous places in
the city. You can get off the bus if you like, and you can get on the next tour
bus that passes.
Woman: How often are the tours?
Man: They leave every fifteen minutes.
Woman: And what time is the last tour of the day?
Man: Half past five. So, if you go on that tour, you wont be able to get off the
bus and get on a later one.
Woman: How much are the tickets?
Man: Theyre ten pounds for adults and five pounds for children under 16.
Woman: Fine. Can I buy tickets on the bus?
Man: No, you cant. You need to get tickets from the Tour Bus office. Do you
know where that is?
Woman: No, I dont.
Man: Its on Wrexham Street.
Woman: Wrexham Street?
Man: Yes, thats W R E X H A M. The office is open from nine in the
morning until five in the afternoon.
Woman: Great. And do the buses leave from outside the office?
Man: No, the buses leave from the City Hall.
Woman: Okay. Thanks for your help
Good morning, and welcome to Star Language School. I hope you will have a
very good time here. First, let me tell you about the school. On the first floor,
there is a library. The library has lots of books and DVDs. You can take the
reading books and DVDs home with you and you can keep them for two
weeks. You dont have to pay to borrow reading books, but you have to pay
2 to borrow a DVD. You cant borrow grammar books. You can only use them
in the library. On the second floor, there is a small computer room. Its often
busy, so you should sign up to use it. The booking form is on the door. In the
basement, there is a small caf where you can buy hot and cold drinks,
sandwiches and chocolate. You may be interested in our activity programme.
We organise trips every Saturday. This week, there will be a trip to Warwick
where you can see a great old castle. If you want to go on this trip, please
speak to Susan in the office.

Boy:
Mother:
Boy:
Ive cleaned the floor and Ive taken all the dirty cups to the kitchen.
Really? Already? Did you clean under the sofa too?
Yes, I did. And I tidied the shelves.
Mother:
Thanks for your help. Ive nearly finished cleaning the bedroom,
so we can go out soon
James:
Lets go for a bike ride after dinner. I dont want to stay in and play
computer games again.
Hannah:
Okay, but dont forget you need to phone your mother first.
James:
Hannah:
Dan: Will you go to any evening classes at the community centre this year,
Jess?
Jess:
Dan:
Jess: Thats a shame. I have to work late at the swimming pool on Mondays.
I could go, but Ill arrive late. Whats on Tuesdays? Is it tennis club again?
Dan:
Jess:
Dan: To football? No. But I might go to tennis. Ive just read my college
timetable. I have Spanish grammar classes all afternoon on Wednesday. I
always feel bad after those lessons. Ill enjoy hitting a ball hard after that!
Jess: Then maybe I wont go to that! It will be too dangerous! Is there
anything on Thursdays?
Dan:
Mr Brown is running his usual club again, just like last year.
Jess: Oh! Mr Browns Thursday film club! I enjoyed that. We had some great
discussions.
Dan: Yes, Im hoping to do that this year too. And on Fridays, the local
singing group will be upstairs and the guitar group is downstairs.
Jess: Oh, yes. I tried the singing group a few years ago, but the songs were
quite boring.
Dan:
Jess:
Yes!
Jack:
Alice:
Jack: I thought so. I remember we had an English exam last year on the
14th July, and your party was on the same day.
Alice:
Jack:
Alice: No, I wont. It took a long time to clean up afterwards. Hardly anyone
stayed to help! It was not fun!
Jack:
Alice: I dont know. I wanted to go to out for a meal at Freddies Pizza House
with some friends, but my flatmate went there last week. She said the
waiters were very friendly, but the pizzas were terrible.
Jack: Well, its not an expensive restaurant. Cheap food isnt often good.
Why dont you try the new burger restaurant?
Alice:
Jack:
Alice:
Wheres that?
Its near Toms house.
On Hill Street?
Jack: Well, its near there. You go past Toms house and turn left down Penny
Road. Its down there, opposite a little book shop called Arthurs.
Alice: Oh, I know Arthurs. But I dont know this restaurant. But is it
expensive? I dont have much money.

Woman:
Man: On Friday. Last year it finished on Saturday, but this year the festival
will run for three days, not two.
Woman:
Man: The gates open at eleven in the morning, and they stay open until
midnight.
Woman: I dont think Ill stay that long. But I might go in the afternoon from
about three oclock until seven oclock.
Man: Well, dont come by car. The city centre will be very busy. Take the
bus. The number 50 goes to the park every 15 minutes.
Woman:
Man:
Good idea.
And when you go, look out for Paxman Pies. They are really good!
We at the Countryside Club love the outdoors and we want young people to
love it too. Thats why, once again, we are holding a writing competition. Last
year, we asked children to write about their favourite animal from the British
countryside. This year, the subject is different. We want you to write about
your favourite place in Britain. It could be a beach, a forest, a park or a
mountain. But it must be outdoors. You cant write about your bedroom! So, if
youre between the ages of eight and fifteen, start writing! Last year, you had
to be less than 12 years old, but we decided to change it this year. You must
write between 200 and 400 words. The best ones will appear in our
Countryside magazine. The winners will also get a free family ticket to London
Zoo. If you want to enter, please send your entry to 25, Black Street, Portland
thats 25 Black Street, Portland. Your entry must arrive before the 14th
October. We look forward to reading your entries!
