20 May 2016 Lesson Plan/Program Modification Program: Edmark Reading Lesson: Picture/Phrase Cards Objective: Student will practice comprehension skills. Procedure: Student will be shown a number of picture cards laid out in front of him. In another pile are cards that are the phrases that match each picture card. The student will grab from the card pile and read aloud the phrase. Then he will match it to the correct picture. Lesson Modification: I will modify this lesson in order to meet the needs of my student. One modification I will make is to allow the student to use an Ipad to type the phrases and use text-to-speech application instead of reading aloud the phrases. The student will need his Ipad because he has a significant speech impairment. This student can create the beginning and ending sounds of words but struggles with saying the middle sounds. Also, he loses a lot of energy trying to talk so full sentences or phrases would be too much for him. The text-tospeech application on the Ipad will allow this student to participate in the Picture/Phrase Cards activity during reading group. Because it is important that this student still practices his speech, I will ask him to
read one or two words in each phrase, filling in the blank as I read. With this modification, the student will still be able to meet the objective of practicing comprehension skills.
