CONSTITUTION OF THE
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Article 1 + Purpose
Section I; The purposa of the National Honor Socioty shall be to create enthusiasm for
scholership, to stimulate a desis to render service, to promote leadership and to
dovelap character in students of secondary schools.
Article = The Principal
Section I: The principal shall rasarva tho rights fo approve all activities and decisions of
the chapter
Section Il: The principal chall annusily appoint a chaptor advisor, who may serve
consecutive terms.
‘Section Ili; The rinipal shall be part of the local school district appeal process for non-
selecton or dismissal cases.
Article ll = The Chapter Advisor
Section I: The chapter advigor shall be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the

Article IV - The Facuity Council
‘The faculty council ehall consist of five voting facuity members appointed by the
principal, but not including any principal or assistant principal.
“The tarm ofthe faculty council shall be one year. Membors may bo appointed to

Section sl: The chapter advisor shall be an ex-officio, non-voting, sixth member of the
faculty council

respensiblty to continue to exhibit these qualities after salection.
Section i: Membership consists of active and graduate. Active members become graduate
‘upon graduation and thereafter have no voica or vata in chaptor affairs.
Section Ill: The ‘scully counell ean bestow honorary membership to any faculty or other
adult who demonstrates outstanding service to the school in keeping with the
ppurpeee of the National Honor Sociaty
Section IV: Candidates becama membars when inducted at a special ceremony.

‘Section VI: An National Honor Socioty momber who transfers ffom another school and brings
4 letter of recommendation from his formor principal or adviser is automatically
scceptad. The transfer member must meet the naw chapter's standards within
fone comester to remain eligible

membership.
Article VI - Selaction Process
Section f: Candidates must be juniors or seniors and must have attended the school for a
reasonable amount of time to be daterminad by the council
Section ii; Canddates must have a cumulative GPA of at least 35 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates
‘must then be avaluated on the basis of sérvico, character and leadership.
Section ii; Seleation is made by a majorty vote ofthe council
Section IV; A dateription of the school selection process must be published In a timely
{ashlen in a school publication and mado avallabe to all students.
Section V: The cecslon ofthe faculty council cannet be appealad to a higher author.
Article Vl ~ Dismissal

Article IX - ‘The President

over all mectings and establish communications with the administration and

Article X - The Vice-President

attend all meetings.
Section il: The Vice-President may voto the President's cholee for Services Committes
Chalrperson.

Article XII - The Executive Committee

for ensuring club policy matchos school regulations,
