MMK RE TEAM

Explicit Teaching of
Prayer
Each year level has particular prayers and
meditative prayer practices that need to
be explicitly taught.
Within this document is a small collection
of links to websites and YouTube clips that
may assist in teaching these concepts.
Please explore the meditation resources
at our school to get some more ideas for
incorporating this within your classroom.

What do you need to

teach?
It is important to ensure that you reteach prayer
practices explicitly taught in previous years to
consolidate and reconfirm understanding before
teaching your own explicit prayer and prayer
practices for your year level.
For example: Year 2 students are explicitly taught
prayers for forgiveness and the Penitential Act
but have in previous years (Prep and Yr 1) were
taught Amen, Sign of the cross, Hail Mary
and Grace before meals so
these should
be continued also.

Prayer of
Forgiveness
Please Forgive Me
Dear Father God,
I know that I've done wrong through my thoughts, my
actions, and the things that I've said, sometimes by mistake
and sometimes on purpose. I have gone my own way and not
put you at the center of my life. I am very sorry and ask that
you please forgive me. I thank you that I can ask you this
because I truly believe that your Son, Jesus, died in my place
and, through Him, I have access to you. Please help me to
follow you more closely every day and live a life which gives
glory back to you. I pray this in Jesus' name.
Amen.

Penitential Act
Asking God for forgiveness prior to the Liturgy of the
Word:
Lord have Mercy
Christ have Mercy
Lord have Mercy.
- or Have mercy on us O Lord, for we have sinned against you.
Show us O Lord your mercy and grant us your salvation.
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins
and
bring us to everlasting life.
