WHEN DESIGNING THE GARDEN, NATURAL DESIGNS PETA DONALDSON DREW ON THE ARCHITECTURAL
and interior design styles of the mid-20th century for inspiration. This could be clearly seen in the nearly
all-white colour scheme and the strong reliance on clean lines and geometric shapes.
The Pavilion, which won a Silver medal in the Inspirational Gardens category, was carved into four distinct
spaces: the entrance, pavilion, plunge pool and lawn. Each served its own purpose yet the landscape came
together seamlessly to create a functional and sociable garden with a nice, easy flow.
The entrance featured a series of custom floating concrete steps that led to the elevated pavilion, which
Peta called the heart of the garden. While the furnishings within the pavilion were sparse, they werent
Spartan. The space felt warm and luxurious, due in part to the suspended stainless-steel Cocoon fireplace.
The circular plunge pool, its external walls clad in shimmering glass mosaic tiles, also served as an over-scale
water feature and added another dimension to the design. A circular opening was created in the pavilion roof
directly over the pool, bringing natural light into the space. This also helped to draw the eye to the ceiling of
the pavilion which was finished in Glosswood white lining boards, selected from their 3D Designer Profile series.
The lining boards worked in harmony with the feature wall (comprised of white polyurethane 3D panels
in Lump Sculpture Studios Fish Scales pattern), polished concrete paving and gloss white brickwork. The final
flourish was a large white 1960s-inspired sculpture, Tricycle, also from Lump Sculpture Studio.
