Some woolly facts


Wool was one of the best selling products for many years.
Merino came from Spain.[a merino is a type of sheep. And
Spain is a country]
The first Australian wool was sold in London.[ London is a
city in England]
Before 1840, Australia was producing more than two
million kilos of wool each year now thats a lot.
The fist transport was by bullock, horse and camels.

As we said the first transport for wool was by
bullocks , horse and camels but as the years went on
the transports changed. Eventually paddle steamer
and clippers came in. clippers were made to get to
the England markets faster. The down side was that
the clippers were a lot smaller then the paddle boats.

The first sheep arrived in Australia on the first fleet


in 1788.
When man found out that wool could keep them
warm in winter and were able to be worn in
summer no other man could match it.
did you know that in 40 years of having sheep in
Australia it was the most biggest country that
supplied wool.

How the machines in wool


producing have changed
As some of you know the wool machines that we used
today are wool pressers, hand pieces and much more.
But back in olden days the had hand press clippers and
lots more. And if you think shears hard now well have a
look back then. Now we will explain what these thing are
well a hand press is what you put your wool in and press
it into bails and clippers are what you cut the wool off the
sheep with.
