‘Sample OotM Team Meeting: ‘Coach opens the meeting with a short recap of what happened at the last meeting and what they hope to accomplish at the meeting today. At the beginning of the year, coaches may lead the team in a team-building activity, ice breakers, etc. so the team can leam more about each other's strengths, weaknesses, and talents and interests, Coach leads the team in a spontaneous problem, either verbal, hands-on, or combination verbal hands-on. Coach leads the team in brainstorming ideas for the long-term problem (or a building activity for the long-term problem, depending on the stage of development of the solution.) Coach leads the team in another spontaneous problem practice as time allows. ‘Teams may take a snack break, etc. as needed anytime during the meeting as deemed ‘appropriate by the coach. ‘Coach reviews what was accomplished during today's meeting and leads the team in a discussion about what they would like to accomplish during the next meeting. What coaches need to plan: ‘Coaches need to find appropriate spontaneous problems for teams to practice at the meetings ‘each week. They can be found easily and quickly online by doing a Google seach. Coaches need {0 provide materials for the teams to solve the hands-on and combination problems. These are usually common household items. Coaches may ask parents to provide materials, Coaches may also ask team members to lead other team members in a problem later in the year once they have practiced. Team members also enjoy cteating their own spontaneous problems for their ‘teammates to solve. Coaches also supervise completion of all toummament paperwork and make sure that teams are following all program guidelines and problem rules, ‘Advantages to Coaching: YOU, the coach, get to decide when, where, and how often your team ‘will meet. Do not underestimate the amount of time it may take a team to complete a solution. You also get to work with a group of really creative children who will blow you away with the ideas they ‘come up with. You will get caught up in their enthusiasm and enjoy seeing them put the solution together piece by piece.
