Ratification of appointments to the Harrison Memorial Library Board of Trustees,

Community Activities and Cultural Commission, Historic Resources Board, and Planning
Commission.

RECOMMENDATION
Ratify appointments to the Harrison Memorial Library Board of Trustees, Community Activities and
Cultural Commission, Historic Resources Board, and Planning Commission.
SUMMARY
City Boards and Commissions perform a valuable service to the City by providing means by which the
City Council can obtain advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of
the community. Unscheduled vacancies often occur throughout the year for a variety of reasons.There
are currently four (4) vacancies on Boards and Commissions:
- Harrison Memorial Library Board of Trustees - one (1) vacancy, term ending 2018
- Community Activities and Cultural Commission one (1) vacancy, term ending 2018
- Historic Resources Board one (1) vacancy, term ending 2016
- Planning Commission one (1) vacancy, term ending 2017
Mayor Dallas and Vice Mayor Theis interviewed applicants for board and commission vacancies May
24, 25, 26 2016. All applicants demonstrated a strong commitment to service and a desire to serve the
Carmel-by-the-Sea community. The ad hoc committee was appreciative of all community members of
diverse backgrounds and exceptional skill sets, who filled out an application and participated in the
interview process.
After much deliberation the ad hoc committee has identified the following individuals as qualified and
ideal candidates to fill the vacancies and is recommending the appointment of the following candidates
to board and commissions:
- Timothy Blomgren to the Harrison Memorial Library Board of Trustees
- Linda Calafiore to the Community Activities and Cultural Commission
- Thomas Hood to the Historic Resources Board
- Gail Lehman to the Planning Commission
