Reception Class Newsletter Summer Term 2

Dear Parents Hasnt the year gone quickly? Thank you to all the
children and parents for making this such a good year. Wishing you
all the best in Year 1. Have a lovely summer.

Our topics will include:

Ways to help your child:

Personal, Social and


Emotional Development.
Gaining independence.
Feelings/reflections.
Growing and changing.
Preparation for Year 1 visits.
Looking after the new children.
Being a Buddy.

Share your childs thoughts and


feelings discuss any worries
and concerns.
Reassure them about the change
that is to come.

stop correctly. (And other
punctuation!)

Mathematics.
Counting, reading and writing
numbers.
Comparing and ordering numbers.

(Discuss differences).
Let your child choose books for
themselves.
Encourage your child to write a
simple diary of events. (Can do
over Summer Holidays!).
Write simple sentences together
that are punctuated correctly
discuss in context.

Look for numbers in the environment.

Count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Adding and taking away.


Pattern and shape work.
Using money in real life
situations.
Telling the time oclock.
(Half past, quarter to and
quarter past).

Encourage your child to use


addition and subtraction in
everyday situations record if
appropriate.
Look out for patterns!
Let your child pay for items when
shopping.
Tell the time at home and relate
to an action 7.30 is bedtime.....

Understanding the World.


The variety of life looking at
how animals are the same and
different.
What plants and animals need
to live.
Mothers and babies.

Comparison of a farm with


Preston.
Consider what we have learned in
Reception how have we
changed?

Talk about the names of plants


and animals and name them.
(Including baby animals).
Talk about similarities and
differences.

Talk about what a farm looks like


and compare with Preston city.
Visit a farm. Share your childs
experiences and thoughts.

Using textiles and a range of
materials to design and make.
Colouring and adding pattern.

Let your child explore a range of

Our P.E. days are Tuesday/Thursday and Friday.
Reading Packs need to be in school every day/Books are changed twice a week/Try to read little
and often at home/Library day is Wednesday (we rely on a volunteer).

Welly Walks will still be on a Tuesday.
