Avocado
An avocado is a fruit, which is also known as the alligator pear. Avocados are
rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and lutein (an antioxidant that may protect vision).
Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) can help to reduce LDL cholesterol and
decrease heart disease risk. Although many people are most familiar with avocados
in guacamole, this is usually eaten with high fat corn chips. Try to add avocado slices
to sandwiches or salads.
Monounsaturated Fatty Acid (MUFA) content of Avocados:
Raw avocados, cubed (All commercial varieties) 14.698 grams per 1 cup
Raw avocados, pureed (California) 22.538 grams per 1 cup
