Year— Freshman Portfolio Category— Social Awareness snment/Activity Title— Inspirations Script — Creative . For my second Social Awareness reflection, | chose my Inspirations Play, Black and Blue. The assignment was to pick a current topic that you feel drawn toward and create a 10 minute Jong play on that topic. My tn group chose racial profiling and injustice ir: the justice system. The majority of the playis looking through the characters eyes as they reflect on the incident that got them arrested. Each tells their story and the audience pieces together the roles each character plays in each other's lives and the injustice some of them face. The girls (main characters) are caught by the police with weed. The gir! holding the weed (Leanne) is shot when she tries to talk to the police. The play centers around monologues from each girl involved, telling the whole story. This piece is very important to me an‘ demonstrate my ability to convey ideas and thoughts creatively will cause the audience to reflect on then -elves and the ways rat Black and Blue aided me in developing my group dynamic and my creative signature. | had With 5 other strong willed girls and effectively get my ideas across. This also meant that | had to fully develop my ideas before | presented them to the group. | could not simply toss an idea out and have no plan or thought behind it. Through this project I also refined my creative signature. | did this by taking the message of our play and finding abstract ways to get that. message across. | had to add a “dada-esque” element to the play and still s able to .d my portfolio. In the making of this prei ct | wa hink that this play and make them imp. ful. It cial profiling has affected them. to reason have it flow and make sense. This project isa perfect fit for my portfolio by exemplifying my creative ideas and love for writing and performing. | was able to create and develop my own character, and fully immerse myself in that character. | was able to write my own script and add my own piece to the world we created. Being able to have full control ‘over my own character was a great « verience and | have become aware that it is something | love to do. ae
