The Hundred Years War

By: Isabelle, Josee, Emma, and Juniper

Introduction
The Hundred Years War was an
ongoing fight between England and
France over the succession of the
French throne. The war was from
1337 to 1453, which was a total of
116 years, and it spread across many
generations. For those reasons, our
driving question is: Why did this war
last so long?

Who were the combatants in the hundred years war?

The main combatants were France
and England but they both drew
many allies into the war. These allies
were: The kingdom of England, The
Holy Roman Empire, Sweden,
Denmark, Luxembourg, the Crown
of Aragon, The Crown of Castile,
The Kingdom of Scotland,The
Kingdom of Bohemia, and the
Kingdom of Portugal.

What caused this war to last one hundred years?

The reason the war lasted so long
was not only the battle itself but also
the changing of alliances. Most
battles during this time lasted so long
because they were mostly *sieges on
castles, rather than actual large scale
attacks.
*A siege is where enemy forces surround a town or castle,
cutting of essential supplies with the aim of compelling the
surrender of those inside.

Who won?
This war had a very clear winner,
France, but the English forces
dominated France in the war for
decades. In the beginning, in the
1360s, France had the English beat
due to their large army, but France
didnt have all the victories. There
were a few big battles that England
won because of their discipline and
skill with longbows.
