PROCESS DESCRIPTION FOR EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT:

Industries through waste liquor into rivers, canals etc. Before flowing this liquid to outwards,
the plant which treats this effluent to a harmless form for the environment is known as
Effluent Treatment Plant. The Effluent treatment Process is given Below:

Bar Screen: A bar screen is a mechanical filter used to remove large objects, such as
rags and plastics, from Effluent.

Oil & grease Trap: Oil & grease trap is used for preventing the oil which should not come
into the collection tank. The Oil-Grease Trap is provided above the equalization tank which
operates round the clock and removes the oil content.

Collection Tank/ Equalization Tank: Equalization Tank in any Treatment Plant serves
the purpose of maintaining desired flow rate as well as for making mixture homogeneous. It
is evident that effluent of any industry is heterogeneous in nature, to bring the best out of
any wastewater treatment plant homogeneous mixture is must.Homogeneous mixture in
Equalization Tank is done via the actions of coarse bubble diffusers.
Raw Effluent Pump: Homogeneous Mixer from Equalization Tank Is Passed through Raw
effluent Pump to flash Mixer.

Flash Mixer: In flash mixer alum (coagulant) acts upon sludge so that suspended solids
settle down. In addition pH of sludge is also raised by lime as it is required to have a pH of 79. The chemicals introduced into the water stream will attract any very fine particles, such
as silt, that will not readily settle or filter out and make them clump together. These larger,
heavier formations are called floc, which are much easier to remove from the water.

Clarifloculator: The sludge settles down and clean water at the top flows down to the
Tube Settler. The clarifier separates the slurry from clean water.

Tube settler: Tube settlers capture the settleable fine floc that escapes the clarification
zone beneath the tube settlers and allows the larger floc to travel to the tank bottom in a
more settleable form. The tube settlers channel collects solids into a compact mass which
promotes the solids to slide down the tube channel.

Sludge drying bed: Sludge from Settl ing Tank and C lari fl ocul ator is drai ne d
through gravity on drying bed for dewatering of sludge. Dewatered sludge is sun dried
and is used as manure for gardening.

Filter Feed Tank: The clarified water is passed to the filter feed tank. From here the
treated water is pumped to the carbon and sand filters, where the suspended solids, colour
and odour will be removed.

Pressure Sand Filters: Pressure Sand Filter is recommended for the removal of
suspended solids & turbidity from water.

Activated Carbon Filter: Activated carbon is used to remove contaminants and

impurities, using chemical adsorption.

Treated Water Tank: After completing the treatment process the final treated water
stored in treated water tank and used for gardening or flushing applications.
