FADE IN:
INT. LINCOLN'S HOME - MORNING
A honking sound is heard. We see a closed curtain until it is
pulled back by LINCOLN, he looks out the window and is taken
back a bit by the sun. He looks out the window at PETERS
standing next to his car, leaning back out from the car
window. LINCOLN sighs and turns, walking to get clothes.
EXT. LINCOLNS HOME - MORNING
The front door of the Lincoln household opens, out he walks
LINCOLN in his suit towards PETERS. He nods to him as he
approaches the car.
Morning.
Yeah hi.

PETERS
LINCOLN

They both begin to get into the car.

PETERS
You feel better now?
LINCOLN
A bit I guess.
INT. PETERS' CAR - MORNING
The two sit into their seats, closing the doors. LINCOLN lays
back in his seat as PETERS turns on the engine. He turns in
his seat, beginning to reverse.
PETERS
Hey uh, I got a lead I think.
He turns back and begins to drive.
LINCOLN
Oh yeah? Whatd you get?
PETERS
That file on the dash.
LINCOLN looks forward at the file, snatching it quickly. He
flips it open and looks into it, many names and pictures fill
the page.

3.
LINCOLN
Whats this?
PETERS
I talked with a couple of people
around the village, Dennis Morgan
was working in the community centre
Lincoln. The main village one, I
went and talked with Otto Scott.
Thats a list of suspects, people
who might have hated Dennis or had
a reason to kill or anything that
makes them out of the ordinary.
LINCOLN
Otto Scott? You know hes apart of
the Norman, McMann, Fintan Squad
circlejerk right? You saw him at
the station.
PETERS
And what? Hes given us the only
lead we have right now, Morgans
war past doesnt have jack. And
that private prostitute thing,
aint nothing anyone can find on
that. This is all we have, there
might be something.
LINCOLN
sighs Right, whove we got here
then? Some travellers, armed
robbers, hm. Theres close to
fourty names here.
PETERS
I put a call into the station, some
are brought down at the station.
But I could get the Fintan Squad to
help interNo.

LINCOLN

PETERS
No? You do release we wont get
this done overnight right? This
will take us all the way till next
Tuesday if were lucky.
LINCOLN
Nah Im not letting them in on any
of our things, this is our case,
our turf. Not theirs.

4.
PETERS
Whatever, fine well interview all
of them then.
PETERS shakes his head as he continues driving. LINCOLN looks
over the file before closing it up and putting it onto the
dash. He exhales and stares out the window for a couple of
seconds. As he drives along the road, a car speeds up next to
him. He looks over at it, a Kia Rio. In the backseat, he sees
a little girl sitting there and staring at him. He stares at
her as the car continues to speed up past him. He gulps as he
looks back down at his feet.
LINCOLN
I told you about that painting in
my room on Thursday right?
PETERS glances over at LINCOLN before looking back to the
road, shrugging a bit.
PETERS
Kinda, you said it was for
reflection. I dont know what you
meant by it.
LINCOLN
It was my daughters.
PETERS
Oh yeah? Well it was very.unique.
What was it a birthday present from
her or something?
LINCOLN
Shes dead Chris.
PETERS quickly looks back at LINCOLN, a shocked and
sympathetic look on his face. He shakes his head and
stutters, looking uncomfortable.
PETERS
Oh Lincoln, Im-..Im sorry.
Really, I didnt know. All I heard
was rumors but I didnt, shit. Im
sorry.
LINCOLN
Dont blame yourself, you dont
believe everything you hear around
town now do you? Mmm anyway it was
a long time ago...Im a different
man now.

5.
PETERS
Fuck..your kid died? That
aint...that aint nothing no man
should have to go through.
LINCOLN
Mmm, I thought that too Peters but
Ive learned to accept the fact
something like that can happen if
you dont keep watching.
LINCOLN removes a cigarette and his lighter, lighting it up
in his mouth.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Youve got to be on your toes at
all times, keep watch and all that.
Otherwise, whats gonna protect
you? A nice, three hundred euro
metal door? A gun? Nah, your brain
and your eyes. It makes you aware
of whats coming before it reaches
the door.
LINCOLN exhales as he stares out the window, looking over at
the landscapes.
CUT TO:
EXT. BALLINA GARDA STATION - MORNING
The Ballina Garda station stands tall as a car pulls into the
carpark, PETERS car.
CUT TO:
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES, BALLINA GARDA STATION - MORNING
In walks PETERS and LINCOLN together towards their desks, the
Fintan Squad and other Gards stand next to the notice board.
PETERS and LINCOLN take notice, looking over.
PETERS
Shit, theres a meeting?
LINCOLN strolls over, PETERS lays down his files and follows.
DET. O'BRIAN
We believe that the Devil killer
possibly has access to a furnace
building.

6.
DET. O'BRIAN (CONTD)
The burn marks temperatures rose to
a very high amount so it would
explain it. Eh, the killer more
than likely is to be in his
fourties to fifties and built like
a wrestler or boxer, considering
the strength it took to hold Morgan
down. He probably has a history
with arson or fire so maybe check
recent arrest records to do with
arsons, from 1995 onwards.
LINCOLN
You wont find anything on the
Devil killer there.
OBRIAN looks up, giving LINCOLN a dirty look.
O'BRIAN
And whys that?
LINCOLN
I checked it myself, all youre
going to find is some skinny young
brat who gets a hard on from seeing
a house explode, like the rest of
the young generation today.
A few chuckles erupt throughout the group.
O'BRIAN
Well maybe you missed something
Detective Lincoln, check it anyway.
And eh, theres also an idea that
he might be trained in arts and
crafts because of the metal figure,
its unknown what it could be but
it is certainly a sign. Thats all
for today everyone, well have this
soon enough. Go get to your jobs,
you all know what youre assigned
to.
Everyone disperses and goes off to their desks, LINCOLN and
PETERS are about to walk off to their desks before OBRIANs
voice stops them.
O'BRIAN (CONTD)
I heard you have a good couple of
suspects downstairs waiting for
you, want some help?

7.
LINCOLN
No, we dont need the help from
you. Were small time right? Youre
the guys with the big head, you
obviously know more about the human
brain than we do.
PETERS
Lincoln cmon..
O'BRIAN
Alright yeah, fuck you too then. Do
your own dirty work, better yet why
not get a couple more drinks in
your system?
LINCOLN raises his head a bit and approaches OBRIAN, giving
him a quick slap.
LINCOLN
Say it again would you?
OBRIAN shakes his head, stepping back and ready to fight.
LINCOLN gets himself ready aswell, PETERS steps into the
middle raising his arms up.
PETERS
Jesus Christ, could any of you just
calm down for two fucking minutes?
Weve got a killer on our hands,
causing people in Ballina to go
running home and cant stay out
late. Just leave eachother alone
yeah?
LINCOLN looks to PETERS before looking back at OBRIAN, he
turns and walks back to his desk. OBRIAN nods at LINCOLN,
snarling.
OBRIAN
Fucking drunk old shit.
Hm?

LINCOLN

LINCOLN turns and approaches OBRIAN, clenching his fists.

OBRIAN is already ready. A few shouts break out before one
shout towers over them.
MCMANN (SHOUTING)
Hey, hey! Are you two little shits
done playing? You, Lincoln, fuck
off back to your desk.

8.
MCMANN (SHOUTING) (CONTD)
Stop causing shit or Ill have your
ass off of the case, youre not
bringing in shit right now are you?
I dont see why I still need you.
Now go on, get outta here.
LINCOLN shakes his head and turns, walking back to his desk.
OBRIAN grins and stands back with the Fintan Squad and a
couple of other Gards. PETERS starts to follow LINCOLN before
MCMANN stops him.
MCMANN (CONTD)
Not you, you come into my office.
PETERS turns and exhales lightly, following MCMANN
CUT TO:
INT. MCMANN'S OFFICE, BALLINA GARDA STATION - MORNING
MCMANN shuts the door. He stamps back to his desk.
MCMANN
Fucking Lincoln, what the hell does
he think hes doing?
PETERS
Im sorry sir, I think hes still a
bit ill..
MCMANN
Ah stop with that shitty excuse
Chris. OBrian told me about what
happened at the Merry Monk. You do
realise if somebody had reported
that wed be on a frying pan right
now yeah?
PETERS
Listen sir, Lincoln is just..Hes a
complicated guy alright? Hes
having his own problems, his
daughter died.
MCMANN
I know that! I..I heard it from
when it happened, it changed him
Chris. And I know hes having
problems, hell any man would.

9.
MCMANN (CONTD)
But that doesnt give him the right
to just come in and act like the
little shit whenever he feels like
it. I might just take him off the
case..
PETERS
Sir, just leave him. Hes a good
detective, this case is the only
thing he has. Who knows what hell
do if you take him off, hell I
think itll make him do worse shit.
Like running off to the GSOC,
didnt you say that before?
MCMANN licks his lips lightly.
Yeah..

MCMANN

PETERS
Ill keep an eye on him still, Ill
stop him from doing any of that
shit again. I think hes starting
to open up to me more now, so Id
say Ill know more about him soon.
MCMANN
Keep me in the loop, anything you
find out. Come and tell me, what
angle is he playing at in the
investigation?
PETERS
Ah, various things. Weve only
started on Thursday, its just
interviewing suspects right now.
MCMANN
Mhm. Right well, your suspects you
requested are waiting downstairs,
Id interview them quick though.
Nobody likes being held at a
station for long.
PETERS
Yeah, Ill get right on it. Thanks
sir.
MCMANN nods once as PETERS stands up, walking out.
CUT TO:

10.
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MORNING
PETERS leans down onto the table, a man seats in the chair
looking upto him. LINCOLN stands beside a wall, arms crossed
as he leans on it.
PETERS
Dennis Morgan, you know him eh?
SUSPECT #1
Why would I know him?
CUT TO:
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MORNING
A new suspect comes into frame.

SUSPECT #3
Saw him around once or twice, dont
know him well.
CUT TO:
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MORNING
A new suspect comes into frame. PETERS suit changes. He
pushes a picture of DENNIS across the table.
PETERS
This guy, you remember him from the
community centre?
The suspect shakes his head.
CUT TO:

11.
INT. GARDA STATION KITCHEN - NIGHT
PETERS is yet again in a new suit and takes a sip from his
drink, laying it down before putting his hands over his face.
CUT TO:
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - AFTERNOON
PETERS is yet again in a new suit, he shows the suspect a
file. LINCOLN strolls around the room.
PETERS
I heard you wanted to kill this guy
didnt you?
SUSPECT #5
Ah what? Nah, nah I didnt.
PETERS
Horse shit, everyone knows you
wanted to.
SUSPECT #5
Wheres your proof eh?
PETERS shakes his head lightly.
CUT TO:

desk across from
He rubs his hands
flips open a file

The file is the list of suspects, lots of names fill the page
some are crossed out already while some arent. PETERS
crosses out one name.
PETERS
Four days, twenty six suspects. Not
a single fucking lead.
LINCOLN
I knew that suspects thing was
going to be a shit show when you
showed me it.

12.
PETERS
I thought wed at least get
SOMETHING, all we have now is a
couple of nobodies and unknowns.
PETERS shakes his head and drops the file on his desk,
rubbing his head.
PETERS (CONTD)
One more day, one more day and then
were moving on.
CUT TO:
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MORNING
PETERS is in a new suit and is standing up, hes clearly
tired and worn out. He places his hands onto the back of his
chair, LINCOLN is leaned up against the wall across from the
SUSPECT. The SUSPECT is sitting in his chair, shoulders
upright and hands together on his legs. He stares at the
ground.
PETERS
Dennis Morgan, what do you know
about him Gerry?
GERRY doesnt move or answer, he keeps his eyes on the floor.
PETERS shakes his head lightly.
PETERS (CONTD)
Gerry, this man was murdered. I
know you worked at the community
centre, he worked there too. Tell
me what do you know about him?
GERRY doesnt move. PETERS snaps.
PETERS (CONTD)
Come on! This guy, this innocent
young guy was murdered! Killed and
left out like nothing! Help me out
Gerry, give me something!
GERRY stays silent. PETERS shakes his head and stands up,
approaching LINCOLN
PETERS
This fucking guy
anything, hes a
vegetable. Lets
loose.

(WHISPERING) (CONTD)
doesnt know
god damn
just cut him

13.
LINCOLN (WHISPERING)
Let me take care of this one, I
think I could get something.
LINCOLN nods to the front door. PETERS looks back at GERRY
and walks to the door, leaving. LINCOLN slowly steps off of
the wall, slowly walking around the room.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
I know you know who Dennis is,
Gerry.
GERRY stays silent.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
And you do know why he was murdered
and who did it, hell you were apart
of it.
GERRY starts to shake a little bit but keeps his eyes on the
ground.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
But Gerry, thats nothing to be
embarrassed or afraid about.
LINCOLN stops beside GERRY and leans down, putting his hand
on his shoulder.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
We were all created with problems
and faults Gerry, youre no
different. You, me, everyone. Weve
all done things we didnt like.
Thats why they say, we were
created in Gods image.
GERRY looks up into LINCOLNs eyes, hes still shaking.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
You didnt do it though, it wasnt
your fault. You were stuck, stuck
and couldnt do anything. Thats
not fear, thats the power of God.
Thats him playing with your
strings, he wants you to feel bad.
Thats the whole game. You dont
control how you want to be, he
does. He controls you and your
feelings.
GERRY begins to hyperventilate.

14.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Hes the wrong one, youre the
troubled guy Gerry. He made you
this way, there is a way out.
Through the power of God. Through
confession, that is how you get
forgiveness. You confess what
happened and God forgives, thats
how it all works Gerry. Confess to
him, confess with me and well go
together. Ill help you.
GERRY (STUTTERING)
I...I..I-I saw hi-hi..him..
LINCOLN nods slowly.
LINCOLN
I seen God too Gerry, hes a very
welcoming figure.
GERRY shakes his head slowly, tears start to flow and he
keeps hyperventilating.
GERRY
N..n..no. N-no-not God
LINCOLN raises his head up a bit. GERRY struggles to spit the
words out, his breathing starts to go quicker.
GERRY (CONTD)
B..b..Ba..Balor..
LINCOLN exhales, nodding his head lightly.
CUT TO:
INT. VIEWING ROOM - MORNING
PETERS looks through the interrogation room glass, standing
in the viewing room. He raises his head up as GERRY says the
name.
CUT TO:
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MORNING
LINCOLN continues to nod, patting GERRY on the back.
LINCOLN
Thats good, thats good Gerry. Who
is Balor? Where can I find him?

15.
GERRY
He...he..hes h-here. Hes
ev..everywhere Hes...hes worse
than...than anybody..
LINCOLN gulps as he holds GERRY tight, nodding lightly. GERRY
lowers his head and begins to cry, shaking it.
GERRY (CONTD)
T...th...the fi-...fires
coming...Lincoln..
LINCOLN quickly turns his head to GERRY, squinting a bit and
looking at him.
LINCOLN
How do you know my name?
GERRY cries as he shakes his head, looking back to the
ground.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Hey, hey. How do you know my name
Gerry?
LINCOLN slaps GERRY. GERRY shakes his head and continues to
cry.
GERRY
T..the...the eye o...of
fire...controls everything.
LINCOLN grits his teeth and continues to nod.
LINCOLN
Where did you hear about me Gerry?
Hm? Was it from Balor? Does he know
me?
GERRY
H-...he knows...every...everything.
LINCOLN stares into GERRYs eyes and holds onto him as GERRY
continues to cry.
CUT TO:
EXT. INTERROGATION ROOM - MORNING
The door to the interrogation room swings open, LINCOLN walks
out. He turns to a Gard.

16.
LINCOLN
Get this man into a cell, dont let
anybody down there to him without
contacting me. Got it?
The GARD nods and walks into the interrogation room. LINCOLN
starts walking, PETERS comes out of the viewing room. He
walks with LINCOLN
PETERS
Balor, right. That ring a bell?
LINCOLN
No but its about to, we need to
find out more about Gerry, where
hes been living.
CUT TO:
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES - MORNING
LINCOLN and PETERS march to the desks, they come up to
PETERS desk. LINCOLN snatches the file of the list of
suspects, he flips it open and begins to read through. He
shakes his head as he continues reading.
LINCOLN
Nothing, completely nothing.
PETERS
Bollocks, right. Lets check where
he lived. There must be something.
This Balor guy has to connect to
it.
PETERS pulls out his chair and sits down at his computer. He
loads up some files and begins to search through them.
PETERS (CONTD)
Right, Gerry Williams
PETERS begins to type on the computer for a while before,
sitting forward a bit.
PETERS (CONTD)
Here we go, an address A church
out on the edge of the village.
Cmon.
LINCOLN and PETERS step up from the computer, leaving.
CUT TO:

17.
INT. PETERS CAR - MORNING
PETERS car drives through an old road, still a bit bumpy.
PETERS has his eyes fixed on the road. LINCOLN stares out
the window as the car drives up. He keeps his hand on his lap
as he stares up through the window. They pass through a bunch
of hedges before coming to a place, an old church from the
middle ages. Its top part broken down and half of it blown
away.
PETERS car pulls to a stop and the engine cuts. The duo get
out. LINCOLN steps out slowly, hand on his waistband as he
looks around. He looks up at the sky and sees again, the big
eye in the sky with the golden iris. He crosses his eyebrows
as he looks down to the ground before coming back to reality,
turning back to the church. PETERS stares up at it.
The two begin to approach it slowly. PETERS raises his hand
up and looks to LINCOLN, waiting for his agreement. LINCOLN
locks his hand around the butt of his gun and nods once to
PETERS. The door of the old church swings open, giving a big
loud creak. They rush inside.
INT. OLD CHURCH - MORNING
The old church looked to be very small and old on the inside.
Ash filled the floor, along with a big open view outside of
it from a big hole in the front wall. The seats pushed to the
side of the church to allow a good few tables in the middle
of the church. The tables being filled with metal parts,
glue, sticks, ash and gascans.
PETERS and LINCOLN walk in, guns raised. They lower them
slightly at the emptyness of the room. They look over the
table and slowly approach it.
The fuck?

PETERS

PETERS keeps looking over the table at all the objects while
LINCOLN makes his way through the church. PETERS stares over
all the materials.
PETERS (CONTD)
I think weve found our work place
for this Balor then, created the
figures here.
Peters.

LINCOLN

PETERS looks upto LINCOLN and approaches him to the altar. He

steps up next to him, looking at the altar.

18.
The burned metal figure stands high on the altar as the duo
stare down onto it..
CUT TO:
EXT. OLD CHURCH - MORNING
Many garda cruisers are parked next to the church, along with
PETERS car. A couple of Garda members going in and out of
the old church. PETERS and LINCOLN stand outside next to
PETERS car. Out walks a CORONER from the church.
CORONER
Right, Detectives.
PETERS
What have you got Doc?
CORONER
Were dusting for prints right now,
weve got a few. Id say though the
church has been used recently,
couple of bits of food in there and
all that.
PETERS
Mhm, what about all the items and
ash?
CORONER
Ah, that ash and hole in the wall
isnt anything recent. That
probably happened a couple of years
ago. Although Id say all that
creation shit has been very recent.
Quite a few of the figures in there
were made quite recently and
theres different prints on each so
Id say its a good thought
multiple people created them,
multiple people trained in arts and
crafts.
PETERS
Right, thanks Doc. Get back to us
when you have a person for those
prints.
CORONER
You got it.

19.
The CORONER nods his head once to the duo and walks back
inside the church. Up in the distance a car comes driving up
the road to the crime scene.
PETERS
Christ, well at least we have a new
lead anyway.
LINCOLN
You dont think that maybe the
Devil killer is actually multiple
murderers now do you?
PETERS crosses his arms, thinking.
PETERS
What if we actually caught the
Devil killer? Whos to say Gerry
wasnt the killer? That Balor
figure could be an imaginary thing
to Gerry.
LINCOLN
Mmm maybe, I dont believe it but
maybe. Although, I hardly believe
that Gerry being the killer would
have his lair be at his home
address. Especially if hes
supposed to be this smart.
The car pulls up into the crime scene, out gets MCMANN and
the FINTAN SQUAD. PETERS shrugs.
PETERS
Yeah maybe.
Up walks MCMANN and the FINTAN SQUAD, LINCOLN and PETERS turn
to them. PETERS nods once to them.
Sir.

PETERS (CONTD)

MCMANN
Well Chris, what do we have here?
PETERS
A connection to the Devil killer
sir, the metal figure we found at
the crime scene. Well, I think we
found where we created them and who
did. That Gerry Williams guy we
have at the station, hes one of
them.

20.
MCMANN raises his eyebrow, pulling a worried look.
MCMANN
One of them?
PETERS
Coroner said multiple people
created these figures sir, theyre
getting prints so well know soon.
MCMANN gulps once, nodding his head lightly.
MCMANN
Good job lads, real good work. You
two get back to the station and
talk with that Gerry again, see
what you can get out of him. The
Fintan Squad and I can take it from
here.
LINCOLN
What? Seriously?
MCMANN
Yes, seriously. You found the crime
scene, you got what you could. Let
the Fintan Squad take it from here.
LINCOLN shakes his head once and looks to PETERS.
PETERS
I agree with Lincoln here sir, why
do we have to go? We found the
scene, this is ours.
MCMANN
Chris, I want the Fintan Squad to
take a look at it. No offence, but
theyre more equipped and
experienced with this type of
thing. You lads have done good but
youre part here is finished, well
update you back at the station. Now
go on.
PETERS sighs once and walks off to the drivers seat door.
MCMANN and the FINTAN SQUAD turn and walk into the old
church. LINCOLN watches them leave as he shakes his head and
bites his gums. He hops into the car.
PETERS
Fucking dont believe that shit, we
found the crime scene. We get to
search.

21.
LINCOLN
Youre in my world now Peters.
PETERS exhales and looks to LINCOLN before turning on the
car.
PETERS
Lets go talk with that Gerry
Williams again, he must know
something more about the Devil
killer.
PETERS turns in his seat and begins to reverse.
CUT TO:
EXT. BALLINA GARDA STATION - AFTERNOON
PETERS car pulls into the Garda station carpark. Outside,
many people are seen waving posters and signs with INTEGRITY
IRELAND written on them. LINCOLN and PETERS hop out of their
car, looking over at the group.
PETERS
These guys? Again?
LINCOLN
Just leave them to wave their signs
in the wind. Let them think theyre
actually important, pfft. Like
waving a sign in the wind is going
to stop corruption.
LINCOLN and PETERS turn, walking into the station.
CUT TO:
INT. CELLS, BALLINA GARDA STATION - AFTERNOON
PETERS and LINCOLN open up the door to the cells, walking
inside. A doctor and a couple of Gards are standing outside a
cell. LINCOLN crosses his eyebrows and approaches the cell
looking inside.
Inside is GERRY WILLIAMS on the floor, dead in his cell. A
coroner stands above him and a couple of Gards stay nearby.
PETERS
Oh Jesus Christ.
LINCOLN
What the fuck happened here?

22.
GARD
Gerry Williams sir, he swallowed
his own tongue.
PETERS raises his hands up over his face, rubbing it. LINCOLN
shakes his head as he looks at the GARD.
LINCOLN
Was anyone watching him?
GARD
Afraid not sir, someone came to
check up on him and found him like
this.
LINCOLN curses under his breath and turns, marching out of
the cells. PETERS follows him.
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES - AFTERNOON
LINCOLN sits at his desk, typing away on the keyboard to his
computer as he searches through it. He types into the
records, Balor. He clicks the search button. No relevant
record attached to the name Balor . LINCOLN grits his
teeth and types in Gerry Williams. LINCOLN begins to search
through his record, its clean. Not even a single ticket. He
squints in confusion at the record.
PETERS is across the way from him, at his own desk. His head
is in his hands. GARD BRIAN and a couple of other walks up
and pats PETERS on his back.
GARD BRIAN
Hey Chris, good job on getting that
Gerry guy to confess. Although its
a shame he killed himself straight
after, he probably would have been
facing some serious, serious
charges though.
GARD
Yeah, good job bud.
Nice one.

GARD #2

PETERS
Oh uh, thanks boys. It wasnt just
me, Lincoln did all the heavy
lifting.

23.
GARD BRIAN
Ah, well. You want to head down to
the pub for the rest of the night?
PETERS
Sure, yeah why not. You want to
come Lincoln?
LINCOLN shakes his head once, he keeps typing away on the
computer.
PETERS (CONTD)
Alright, well talk to you later
then. Call me if you come up with
any new leads.
PETERS stands up and picks up his jacket, throwing it on. He
walks off with the other Gards. LINCOLN stays at his computer
and continues to search, he looks up GERRYs old address. A
news article comes up on the church, Grace Baptist Chapel
from 1989. GRACE BAPTIST CHAPEL COLLAPSES AFTER WORST STORM
HITS BALLINA. LINCOLN holds his head up with his hand as he
looks through the article.
He continues to read until.. The church, set up by political
activist Judas Norman, collapsed after a mini hurricane..
LINCOLN raises his head up a bit as he reads through it. He
picks up his notepad and pen, writing on it.
CUT TO:
EXT. BALLINA VILLAGE - MORNING
We see PETERS jogging on the path around the BALLINA village,
his hood is up and music plays through his earphones. He
inhales and exhales as he runs for a while, he raises his
hand at some people saying hello.
He eventually comes to a stop outside a building and bends
down, catching his breath. He raises up his bottle of water
and takes a drink from it as he begins to breath. He lays the
bottle down onto a ledge beside him and puts both his hands
on his head, controlling his breathing. PETERS exhales once
more and turns to the ledge, picking up his bottle. He looks
up onto a wall beside him and sees a poster on the wall,
Ballina Community Village. Summer Festival, Starts 3pm on
the 25 May 2004. We currently need, Artists and Crafters! Are
you one? Head to the Ballina Community Centre to apply!.
PETERS tilts his head at the poster, smiling a bit.
CUT TO:

24.
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES - MORNING
LINCOLN is sitting at his desk, tapping away at his computer.
Up comes PETERS, sitting onto his desk.
PETERS
I think I have something Lincoln.
LINCOLN
What you got?
This.

PETERS

PETERS slams a poster of the festival onto the table, LINCOLN

sits back in his chair and looks at it.
PETERS (CONTD)
Arts and Crafts, hes got to show
up there. He might want to find his
next target, a killer definitely
loves to go to where all the public
is.
LINCOLN
Yeah, youre right. We should look
out for something out of the
ordinary. Different types of people
involved in Arts and Crafts.
PETERS
Right, well Im going to be working
down there for the community. I can
keep an eye out.
LINCOLN
Right good, Ill be there too. I
want to keep an eye out aswell.
PETERS
Sure yeah, just dont cause a scene
and stay on the side lines. Listen,
Im going to head home and get
dressed for it. But Ill see you
there yeah?
LINCOLN
Mmm yeah, Ill see you there. Leave
your badge and shit at home. I can
keep an eye out.
PETERS
Mhm, Ill see you there then. Talk
to you later Lincoln.

25.
PETERS turns and walks off. LINCOLN sits into his desk,
beginning to write on his notepad.
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK, BALLINA VILLAGE - AFTERNOON
The large open park in Ballina village is literally crawling
with people. Kids, parents, grandparents, shopkeepers etc are
all walking around. Many markets are opened up and selling
off ice cream, hotdogs and chips. Its that time again when
all the people try to sell whatever they can at Summer.
Many tents are set up and some have games, balloons for sale
and clowns dancing around. We pan through the crowd until we
eventually we pan to an old building. It quite clearly has
new white paint over it on the right side. On the left side,
we can see many men and women painting it white including
PETERS. He is bent down, painting over the bottom part of the
building. He turns his head around and looks around the park,
specifically the arts and crafts area. Many men and women are
working at benches and tables, they are creating pictures and
posters with glue and paint. PETERS looks over, squinting
before looking to LINCOLN who is sitting at a bench, on his
own with a can of beer in hand. He is staring at the same
people as PETERS. Suddenly a man comes upto LINCOLN and
passes him a poster, INTEGRITY IRELAND. LINCOLN barely even
reads the poster and just looks at the title, deciding thats
enough to justify his ripping up of the poster.
Suddenly up comes JUDAS NORMAN with a couple of Gards by his
side as he walks through the park, greeting many people and
shaking their hands. He shows off his big, wide grin to
everyone. He comes upto the old building and nods to the
working people including PETERS. He places his paintbrush
down and stands up, nodding to JUDAS.
Hello sir.

PETERS

JUDAS NORMAN
Hello Chris! Good to see you
painting the orphange today, itll
be open soon enough I can tell you
that.
PETERS
Thats great to hear sir, the
orphanage should be open in a few
weeks right?

26.
JUDAS NORMAN
Absolutely! We have a few poor
children already lined up to stay
here, we hope to give them the best
life we can. How is the
investigation going anyway? The
Fintan Squad helping out well?
PETERS
Theyre okay, Lincolns having a
bit of trouble with them but in
general theyre okay.
JUDAS NORMAN
Ah right, well I hear theyre
coming up with leads and closing in
possibly. Hopefully well have a
conviction soon but if youll
excuse me I have to-.
Suddenly a man with a camera comes up and interrupts the
duos conversation.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Sorry Mr. Norman, could I possibly
get a picture of you and the
painters here for the papers? I
love your work and would like to
write about your work on the
orphanage.
JUDAS NORMAN
Of course son, uh everyone! Could
you please stop painting and turn
for the camera please?!
All the painters stop painting and lay their brushes down,
they turn to the camera and all grin at the camera. PETERS
included, he honkers down and smirks at the camera. JUDAS
NORMAN pulls his big large grin to the camera and puts his
hand on PETERS shoulder. The photograper snaps a quick
picture, nodding once to the group before leaving.
PETERS stands up and walks over to LINCOLN who is sitting at
a bench, enjoying a nice can of beer. He sits up right up at
the bench.
PETERS
Hey Lincoln, you alright?

27.
LINCOLN
Heh, look at me Peters. Im a
middle aged lonely guy sitting at a
public bench at a festival and not
talking with anyone. Of course, Im
feeling ontop of the world.
PETERS smirks and nods lightly, looking around the festival.
PETERS
You see anyone of interest?
LINCOLN
Not a soul, Im looking for someone
who might be off on their own. Itd
make sense, like a hawk watching
his prey. So far, all I see is
people huddled together and paying
whatever change they have for a
balloon, Ive never gotten why
people do that.
PETERS
Its a child thing, a toy if you
will. God, why you got to analyse
everything that happens around you?
Dont you ever turn off?
LINCOLN
Not for the last three years.
PETERS shakes his head and looks to the floor before turning
his head to the left. He sees CAITLIN and a group of school
kids walking through the park. PETERS smiles and stands up.
PETERS
Ill catch you later.
PETERS walks off towards CAITLIN as LINCOLN watches. He takes
a sip from his can of beer as he watches them. PETERS goes to
CAITLIN and gives her a big kiss. LINCOLN lowers his eyebrows
and looks towards the floor, he raises his glass up and
shakes it. Empty. He stands up and goes to a market. As he
does, he stops and turns his head to his right. Past a clown
and his balloons, LINCOLN sees the big eye in the sky of the
golden iris made by the clouds and sun. He looks back down
again and continues to walk. He pushes his hand through his
hair as he does so.
He comes up to a market and places a couple of notes onto the
counter, sliding it to the man.

28.
LINCOLN
Get me another one of those would
you?
LINCOLN shows the man his empty can and places it down as he
waits for the man to get him a drink. Suddenly up comes a
girl next to LINCOLN and pats him on his arm.
LINCOLN turns and looks down to her, tilting his head.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Yeah? Hello?
The little girl hands him a poster.
GIRL
Please call her parents if you see
her, thank you mister.
The little girl turns and leaves, carrying a small set of
posters. LINCOLN glances at her as she leaves and looks down
at the poster. Have you seen my little girl? Ciara
MacGready. Call 999 if you see her around, she has been
missing since April 27th 2004. LINCOLN crosses his eyebrows
and sighs a little bit, folding the poster and putting it
into his pocket. The man at the stall passes him his can,
LINCOLN nods and turns to walk off.
LINCOLN continues to walk before he is stopped by CAITLIN and
PETERS.
CAITLIN
Michael Lincoln?
LINCOLN is taken off guard and not sure what the say, he
looks to PETERS for help who is, doing his best to smile.
LINCOLN
Uh, uh yeah thats me.
CAITLIN
Oh dear, its so good to finally
meet you. My name is Caitlin, Im
Chris wife.
LINCOLN
Oh, its uh its very good to meet
you.
LINCOLN awkwardly shakes hands with CAITLIN.
CAITLIN
Its a shame you couldnt come to
our wedding!

29.
CAITLIN (CONTD)
I really wanted to meet you, all
Ive heard about you is what Chris
told me.
LINCOLN
Well eh, Im sorry I couldnt come.
Im a bit, a bit busy lately I
guess.
CAITLIN
Hey, why dont you say you come
join us for a drink after this
festival? Seriously, Id love to
talk with you more.
PETERS
Hey uh, Im not sure Lincoln is
ready for that now. Hes kind of
busy.
CAITLIN
Ah stop, let him speak. He might be
free now, are you free Michael?
LINCOLN
Uh yeah, maybe I could come for a
quick drink.
CAITLIN
Perfect! Well see you at 7?
LINCOLN
Okay, yeah.
CAITLIN
Could you bring over a bottle of
wine? Rose would be nice.
LINCOLN nods his head slowly. CAITLIN smiles and turns to
PETERS.
CAITLIN (CONTD)
Shall we go ahead and meet the
ODriscolls?
PETERS
Thats a great idea. Lets go, see
you later buddy.
PETERS turns and walks off with CAITLIN, waving to LINCOLN
once. LINCOLN stands and watches them go before turning and
walking back to his bench.
CUT TO:

30.
EXT. PETERS' HOME - NIGHT
Lights shine up the PETERS household as everything remains
quiet under the night sky. Until, a car pulls up outside of
the house. Out gets LINCOLN from the car with a bottle of
wine in hand, he approaches the front door. We follow him
from behind as he approaches. He knocks on the door once and
he sniffs. There is a sound of shuffling and eventually the
front door opens, PETERS is laughing a bit and looks to
LINCOLN. His laugh begins to fade away.
We see LINCOLN from the front, his hair is all messed up and
his shirt is barely tooked in. He holds the bottle of wine in
hand.
Oh Jesus.

PETERS

PETERS steps out of his house and closes the door behind him.
PETERS (CONTD)
What the hells the matter with you
Lincoln? We asked you over for a
drink, not after you had drinks.
Jesus, this is my household you
know that right? Youre going to
meet my wife. And did you, did you
drive over here?
LINCOLN
I..Im sorry Peters, I kind of
forgot. I..I just didnt know what
to be doing. I, shit I dont know
anymore. Ill go if you want.
PETERS
sighs No, no dont. Youre here now
and Caitlin wants to meet you.
Just...can you not cause a scene?
Just come in, talk for half an hour
and Ill drop you home. Can you do
that for me partner?
LINCOLN
Yeah...yeah I can.
PETERS nods and turns to open the door. LINCOLN interrupts.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Im sorry Chris, Im real sorry.
PETERS looks back at him and frowns a little bit, nodding.

31.
PETERS
Its alright, dont worry about it.
Cmon in.
CUT TO:
INT. KITCHEN, PETERS' HOME - NIGHT
LINCOLN, CAITLIN and PETERS are sitting at the table as the
TV plays in the background. The bottle of wine is popped
open, half full. LINCOLNs glass is empty while PETERS and
CAITLINs are still half full.
CAITLIN
So, how long have you been a Gard,
Michael?
LINCOLN
A Gard...uh close to ten years now,
or fifteen.. Yeah sorry, fifteen. I
uh worked in Gang Intelligence at
the start before I became a
homicide detective.
CAITLIN
Oh yeah? What was Gang Intelligence
like?
PETERS sits in his seat, barely touching his drink. He stares
up at the clock. Every minute for him is like an hour,
7:05. He clears his throat quietly.
LINCOLN
Well uh, it was...it was a pretty
tough job. I had a few cases, open
and shut really. To do with crime
families, mobs. Some drug
trafficking organizations. Things
like that.
CAITLIN
Woah, sounds interesting. Like a
real hero there eh?
LINCOLN
I wouldnt go as far to say that
Im a hero...no, nah it was usually
small cases. Nothing big. Uh, yeah
but there was some tough decisions.
CAITLIN
What made you come to homicide?

32.
LINCOLN hesitates, tilting his head a bit as he thinks. He
pours himself another glass of wine.
LINCOLN
Uh, a change of scenery. I expected
something different, something
small.
CAITLIN
And now youre working the Devil
case...almost seems like a bad pun.
LINCOLN chuckles.
LINCOLN
Believe me Caitlin, my life has
been nothing but a bunch of bad
puns.
PETERS
Hey look, were out of wine a bit.
Im gonna head out to the shed and
get us another bottle. Ill be back
in a sec.
PETERS sighs and stands up, walking out to the backdoor in
the kitchen. We see him walk through the back garden towards
the shed. CAITLIN and LINCOLN sit in silence for a couple of
seconds, he looks away towards the TV. She nods her head to
his left hand.
Married?

CAITLIN

LINCOLN turns his head back around like a twitch and looks to
her, then down at his left hand.
LINCOLN
Huh? Oh yeah, yeah uhm. I was
once...that was, a good while ago
now..
Any kids?

CAITLIN

LINCOLN
One...yeah, we had one. Grace..she
uhm, died in a car accident a
couple of years back.
CAITLIN
Oh...oh Im sorry to hear that
Michael, really Im sorry.

33.
LINCOLN
Its not your fault Caitlin..its
not your fault, it was mine..I
should have been looking out for
her. But that Devil case, it was
hot and I didnt have the
time..Marriage didnt last long
after that..
CAITLIN
Dont blame yourself Michael, you
done what you could. You seem like
a good man, trying to do whats
right. I know from the moment you
walked in that you were drunk,
anyone could see it. But you kept
yourself on the line. It takes a
real man to do that.
CAITLIN puts her hand on LINCOLNs.
CAITLIN (CONTD)
Were here for you if you need us
Michael, really Im not saying that
to comfort you. We are here for
you, to help out.
In walks PETERS with a new bottle except this time its a
yellow glass of Rose. LINCOLN turns his head sideways a bit
to his direction.
PETERS
Hey sorry, this is all I could get.
We dont have any red anymore.
He sits himself down at the table, pouring himself a drink.
He looks between the two.
PETERS (CONTD)
I miss much?
CUT TO:
EXT. PETERS' HOME - NIGHT
The front door of the Peters household swings open and out
walks PETERS and LINCOLN. They stand on the steps.
PETERS
Alright, you good then?

34.
LINCOLN
Yeah...yeah Im okay. Thanks for
bringing me over Chris. It was nice
meeting Caitlin.
PETERS
No problem man, it was good to
finally have you over. Maybe you
could come over sometime next week?
Or..nah, its okay youre probably
a bit busy.
LINCOLN
No, no I uh...I think I could make
it yeah. We can sort something out.
PETERS smirks and nods a little to LINCOLN, patting him on
the shoulder.
PETERS
Cmon, lets get you home. God
Knows, how much sleep you need.
LINCOLN and PETERS begin to walk down towards LINCOLNs car.
They slowly begin to get into it.
LINCOLN
Hey uh Chris, you want to help look
over the case files with me
tomorrow? Ive looked over them a
bit but a new set of eyes could
help.
PETERS
Sure, Id love to help Li- Mike.
Theres got to be something in
there that we can find.
INT. LINCOLNS CAR - NIGHT
LINCOLN
Yeah, youre right. Hey yknow,
that church we found? That was set
up by Judas Norman, back in 89.
PETERS
Oh yeah? Huh, well its a small
village Lincoln. And Normans been
an activist since he got out of
university. Youre not trying to
imply anything are you?

35.
LINCOLN
No, no it was just..just a thing I
thought I should bring up.
LINCOLN turns his head and looks out the window, holding his
head up with his hand as PETERS kick starts the engine.
CUT TO:
INT. FILE ROOM- MORNING
LINCOLN and PETERS are sitting at desks, multiple files,
pictures, notes and boxes surrounding them. They are looking
through different files each.
PETERS
Right, so we have Dennis Morgan, a
priest murdered on the 28th. And a
year ago, Julie Barnes, a teacher
murdered on the 5th of October.
LINCOLN
No connection there, I looked
around and saw nothing linking the
two. Not even the community centre.
PETERS
What about, Jason Myers 2001. A
plumber...found dead at a scene.
Called out to work there and fix
pipes..
LINCOLN
The call for him was a throw-away
phone. Disconnected not even an
hour after the murder.
PETERS
Fucking hell.
PETERS sits back in his chair, rubbing his face. LINCOLN
shakes his head as he looks over the notes.
LINCOLN
Nothing, just no connection.
PETERS
sighs Right, so what do we have..A
new victim, a priest. His
girlfriend gone missing. A lunatic
who worked for the killer, or
Balor who swallowed his own
tongue..

36.
LINCOLN
Nobody seen nothing. This metal toy
though.
PETERS
Its gone to mean something..
Maybe if..

LINCOLN

Suddenly Lincoln gets interrupted by sounds from the outside.

Multiple cheers and claps are heard. LINCOLN and PETERS look
at eachother before standing up and walking outside.
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES - MORNING
PETERS and LINCOLN walk out into the Detective Offices where
many Gards, Detectives and people are clapping, cheering at
the FINTAN SQUAD who have a man in cuffs and are bringing out
through the crowd to his cell. The man is old, in his 50s,
glasses and short white hair. His head is kept low as he
dragged through.
PETERS
The fuck is this?
GARD BRIAN
The Fintan Squad finally caught the
Devil killer.
What? How?

PETERS

GARD BRIAN
Fingerprints at the old church,
found the metal toy at his house
along with gascans.
LINCOLN stares the group down as they walk past with the man
in cuffs.
CUT TO:
INT. CAMERA ROOM - MORNING
The man is seen through a video from the CCTV footage. He is
sitting in his cell with hands together and staring to the
floor. LINCOLN, PETERS, MCMANN and the FINTAN SQUAD are all
talking in the room.

37.
DET. OBRIAN
His names Alan Beasley. We found
his fingerprints at the church
scene, around the gascans and the
metal figure..Uh we tracked him
down then to his house. Went in,
searched the area and found the
metal figure in his shed. Along
with a shit ton of gascans. Oh and
also, he served in the war too.
Back in the 80s.
Thats it?

LINCOLN

DET. O'BRIAN (chuckling)

Do we need more?
MCMANN
No, we dont. Thats enough.
Listen, great work lads. From all
of you here, we got the bastard off
the streets. Heh I think a
celebration is in order. But first,
OBrian? You take the press
release, you made the arrest. Make
it a hell of a speech. Ill tell
your superiors in Waterford about
your fantastic work.
MCMANN grins from ear to ear and shakes OBRIANs hand,
nodding. PETERS and LINCOLN stand staring in the background.
CUT TO:
INT. FILE ROOM - MORNING
We see through a window many people talking outside, some
with the FINTAN SQUAD and laughing. People are even pouring
drinks for eachother. The door to the room opens and LINCOLN
rushes in, PETERS follows.
LINCOLN
Bullshit, it couldnt be him.
LINCOLN picks up the folders, beginning to search through
them.

38.
PETERS
It makes sense to me Mike, war
background, gascans, the metal
figure, fingerprints. We got him
man.
LINCOLN
A regular old Joe is the Devil
killer? Hm, nah.
PETERS
Look, I know you wanted to bring
this case in. Hell, I wanted to
aswell. It would have looked good
on our records. But lets face it,
the Fintan Squad were more prepared
than us and more experienced. We
would have gotten Beasley
ourselves. Look, the case is over
now. We have him Mike, you would
have made Grace proud.
LINCOLN quickly turns his neck to PETERS.
LINCOLN
Dont use her as a pawn to convince
me, dont fucking try it.
PETERS
Im not, Im telling the truth.
Shell probably be one of the stars
tonight looking down on you and
smiling at what you did. Cmon man,
weve done it. Weve solved the
case. We got more work to do.
LINCOLN
It...it cant be over. If its
over...what do I do next?
PETERS
What you always do when you finish
a level in a game, you move
on...youve got a new life now
Mike. New beginnings, me and
Caitlin will be there for you.
PETERS smiles and pats LINCOLN on the shoulder. LINCOLN nods
his head slowly, he begins to pack up the evidence.
LINCOLN
Thanks...thanks Chris, lets pack
this shit up eh?

39.
PETERS smirks and nods lightly, walking towards his desk and
beginning to pack up the evidence.
CUT TO:
INT. PRESS RELEASE ROOM, GARDA STATION - AFTERNOON
Many people: residents, civilians, Gards, journalists and
reporters are gathered up in the room. Some reporters have
their cameras pointed. Up on the stage is OBRIAN at the
main part, speaking into the microphone. MCMANN, PETERS and
LINCOLN stand in the background, behind him.
DET. O'BRIAN
Today, the 15th of May 2004, the
Ballina Gardai and The Fintan
Squad, from Waterford have caught
the infamous Devil killer who has
been successfully murdering people
for the last four years. The
murderer, was identified as Alan
Beasley after his fingerprints were
found at a place of interest for
the Devil killer and many items
relating to the killer were found
at his house. He will now be facing
trial in the coming weeks. Thank
you.
DET. OBRIAN nods to the audience and turns, walking off the
stage. Many people get up, taking pictures and shouting for
questions. MCMANN comes up to the stage and waves his hand,
smiling.
CUT TO:
EXT. OLD, DIRTY TWO STOREY WHITE HOUSE - AFTERNOON
The old, dirty white house stands tall in the trees. The
light in the bottom left window slowly starts to shine out as
we pull back. The metal figures stands tall outside the
house, more are seen.
CUT TO:
INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - AFTERNOON
LINCOLN, cleaner clothes, freshly shaved beard and bushier
hair, sits in his seat across from a man, 40s, short hair,
skinny. LINCOLN takes a drag of his cigarette.

40.
MAN
I swear, sir...I never did nothing.
LINCOLN
Nothing? You never aint done
nothing bad?
MAN
I...I didnt hurt that little girl.
LINCOLN
I never said you did...I mean, you
only saw the girl passing you
right?
The MAN nods his head, he barely even hesitates and bursts
out his words.
MAN
Yeah, yeah!
LINCOLN
That right? Hm, well if I check out
here..
LINCOLN flips open his filebook and reads through it.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
It says here, on the 4th of
October, when two Gardai men
visited you. You said you never
seen the girl.
The man frowns and starts to shake a bit as he stares up at
LINCOLN.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
I get it though man, youre
confused. First you say this, then
that and then this again. Youre
creating a box for yourself, making
it all complex.
MAN
I want a lawyer, please.
LINCOLN
A lawyer? Hm..you know what they
say about lawyers? Hm?
The man stares up at LINCOLN, tears in his eyes. LINCOLN
exhales a puff of smoke from his cigarette.

41.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Only the guilty hire lawyers. We
got uh, we got a saying here about
that. Yeah, when youre dirty,
call an attorney. Heh, I dont
know who made that but they deserve
a smack.
MAN
I swear, Im innocent here.
LINCOLN
Swear? On what? God? Ooo, a man of
God swearing on God.
MAN
I...I just want to go home.
LINCOLN
Homes gone now, long gone. Theres
only one home youre going to now.
LINCOLN sighs and stands up, beginning to slowly walk around
the room as he smokes his cigarette.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Yknow, I had this case once. There
was this guy, we brought him in on
sexual assault. He came in and
confessed, all that shit. He told
us a story about how he didnt mean
to and he just wasnt in the right
mind, plead for insanity and won
it.
The MAN cries and watches LINCOLN as he strolls around the
room, a blank look on his face.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
I see a parallel here, yknow the
same people.
LINCOLN stops behind the MAN and places one hand on his head
as he leans down next to him.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
This wasnt you, this wasnt your
fault. You were taken over,
insanity and that shit. We all have
our moments. You, me, people, all
of us. We cant control ourselves
sometimes.

42.

Ye-. yeah!

MAN

LINCOLN
You want to know what happened to
that guy? He got off on an insanity
charge. All because he confessed,
not to us but God. You confess your
sins and not only God forgives. You
seem like a good man, trying to
help his people aint that right?
MAN
I do, I do...Im sorry...I just
couldnt help it..
The man sobs as he looks to the floor, placing a hand over
his face. LINCOLN pats him on the shoulder.
LINCOLN
Why dont you confess to God?
Thats where all our hearts lie, in
God aint it? He controls us, he
wants us to be good. He can purify
us all. You want to be good again
dont you?
MAN
Of course, yeah. I want
forgiveness..
LINCOLN
Well, cmon. Lets pray to God, out
loud with me now.
LINCOLN lays his cigarette down into a holder and places the
MANs hands together. The MAN continues to sob and looks to
the floor, eyes open. LINCOLN puts his hands together and
closes his eyes, keeping a calm face.
MAN
De...Dear God, I...Im sorry for
letting the De...Devil take over
me.. Im sorry for touching that
li..little girl. I..I want to be
good again...jo...join you in the
Kingdom of God..Pl..please forgive
me..
The MAN cries and lay down his hands, shaking his head.
LINCOLN keeps in his stance, continuing to pray until he
slowly opens his eyes and drops his hands.

43.
LINCOLN
You hear that sound?
The MAN looks to LINCOLN.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Thats the sound of you confessing
to a child molestation crime.
The MANs face turns to horror, looking at LINCOLN and then
to the security camera.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
We got you now.
LINCOLN stands up slowly, picking up his files from the table
and closing them. The MAN begins to stutter and shake his
head.
MAN
Wh-..what..Wait..please do-..dont
go..
LINCOLN walks to the door and stops, turning to the MAN.
LINCOLN
You know that man from the story?
The sexual assault one?
The MAN stares in horror at LINCOLN, tears flowing down his
face.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
I lied, he never got out. He hung
himself in prison. I hope to see
that parallel there.
LINCOLN turns back to the door and opens it, walking out. The
MAN is left in silence as he cries, two Gards come in and
pick him up, putting the cuffs on.
CUT TO:
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES - AFTERNOON
LINCOLN stands at his desk, packing up his files. He stares
through them, checking over the documents. One GARD passes
him and pats him on the back.
GARD
Good job in there Mike.

44.
LINCOLN
Mmm, thanks Josh.
LINCOLN looks back to his notes and sighs, looking down at
the pictures of the crime scene. He shakes his head lightly
looking down at it, he begins to close the file until he
stops. He stares down at the picture, a look of disbelief,
horror and confusion takes over his face. He squints to the
background of the picture. No, it couldnt be.
LINCOLN reaches across and picks up a magnifying glass,
putting it down onto the top left of the picture. There it
is, hidden in the background. The small metal burned
stickman.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
What the fuck? It..no..it cant be.
LINCOLN shakes his head. He stops and closes his eyes,
inhaling lightly before opening his eyes slowly and looking
back down at the magnifying glass. The stickman is still
there. LINCOLNs face turns to horror and he looks around
before dropping his files and magnifying glass.
INT. CELL - AFTERNOON
The cell is dirty, small and feels like its alone. The MAN
from earlier is sitting in his cell, on his bed and is
covering himself up like a little boy. The door to the cell
creaks and finally opens, in walks LINCOLN. He stamps inside
and closes the door behind him. The MAN looks upto him.
LINCOLN slams the picture down onto the bed.
LINCOLN
Where did you get that figure?
The MAN sits up and leans forward to the picture, looking
down on it. His face turns to a look of horror and he looks
back up at LINCOLN.
MAN
I...I..I dont know.
LINCOLN
Dont bullshit me now, dont you
fucking try it.
MAN
It, its..please..I dont..
LINCOLN shakes his head and looks down to the picture, he
chuckles a bit. The MAN looks confused to him.

45.
LINCOLN
Fuck it, I dont need to ask you. I
can find out myself. You can stay
in jail for the rest of your life.
LINCOLN picks up the picture and turns around, beginning to
leave.
Wait!

MAN

LINCOLN stops and turns around to the MAN. The MAN gulps and
his face is full of fear as he spits out his words.
MAN (CONTD)
You.you never caught that killer
all those months back. Hes still
living, and...hes still murdering.
LINCOLN puts his hands on his hips and stares the MAN down.
MAN (CONTD)
Hes watching...hes got eyes
everywhere. He knows all the high
people. I seen him once, at big
parties.
LINCOLN
Youre talking shit, big people?
You telling me a serial killer has
connections everywhere, in Ballina?
LINCOLN shakes his head and steps closer, leaning down.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Truth is, you aint got shit.
Youre trying to buy your way to a
deal, hell you probably found this
in a trashcan. Aint that right?
The MAN gulps and looks around before whispering.
MAN
I saw him before, hes worse than
anybody I ever seen. The golden
eye, it can see all.
LINCOLN raises his head up and a bit, staring into the MANs
eyes.
LINCOLN
What you say? Huh? Say it again.

46.
The MAN crosses his eyebrows in fear and sits back. He shakes
his head. LINCOLN snaps, hes barely holding himself back.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Whats his name? Tell me it, whats
his fucking name?
B..Ba

MAN

LINCOLN picks him up by his collar and turns, slamming him

against the wall.
LINCOLN
Whats his fucking name?! Where is
he?!
MAN
Balor! His names Balor! Oh dear
Jesus, please help me! Hes going
to kill me and burn me like the
others! Theyre watching! Help!
Suddenly the door to the cell opens and many Gards come in,
pulling LINCOLN away from the MAN. LINCOLN struggles and
keeps reaching out, the MAN begins to scream. LINCOLN gets
pulled out of the cell.
MAN (CONTD)
Hes going to come for you! Hell
burn everything to the ground!
EXT. BACKYARD, PETERS HOME - EVENING
PETERS, slightly more chubbier, shorter hair, is sitting at
his flower bed in his vest and cheap jeans, he is planting
some flowers in the soil. LINCOLN walks in through the
backdoor towards him. He has a file in hand.
Chris.

LINCOLN

PETERS
Ah Mike, good to see you bud. Could
you pass me that spade?
PETERS points to a spade next to LINCOLNs foot. LINCOLN
looks down at it and bends down, picking it up and handing it
to PETERS.
PETERS (CONTD)
Cheers. You coming over to help
with the gardening again?

47.
LINCOLN
No, no. Theres something we have
to talk about. Its a case.
Which one?

PETERS

LINCOLN
The Devil one.
PETERS stops his work and turns, looking up to LINCOLN who
stares back at him.
CUT TO:
INT. KITCHEN, PETERS' HOME - EVENING
LINCOLN and PETERS are sitting at the dinner table in PETERS
kitchen. A beer each between the duo. The file from earlier
is laid out on the table, along with the magnifying glass.
LINCOLN
I pulled him in for a child
molestation case. Got him to
confess and afterwards I saw this.
LINCOLN points to the top left corner. PETERS picks up the
magnifying glass and looks in at it, his eyebrows move up a
bit.
Oh Jesus.

PETERS

LINCOLN
I talked with him after, he
mentioned Balor and the golden eye.
He said he was still out there.
PETERS puts his hands through his hair. LINCOLN shakes his
head.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
We didnt catch him Chris, the
Devil killer is still out there. We
got the wrong guy.
PETERS
What about Beasley, Mike? What
about his fingerprints.

48.
LINCOLN
Best case scenario, Beasley was in
on it aswell. Worst case, we put an
innocent guy in jail.
PETERS
But the killings stopped didnt
they? When we put him in jail? If
he started killing, I dont think
he could stop. There had to have
been more murders if he was still
out there.
LINCOLN
Anyone can do anything if you want
it bad enough. Look maybe, maybe he
framed Beasley so he could go
underground. Maybe Beasley was one
of the killers.
PETERS
Thats just it though, a bunch of
maybes. We need hard proof Mike,
right now all we have is some child
molestors word. I dont think
thats a word we should take.
LINCOLN
He spoke of Balor, none of that was
in the papers Chris.
PETERS
Mike, look I know the case was big
for you but I thought we moved past
that? Its been five months, all
has been quiet. Youre obsessed
with it.
LINCOLN
No Chris, Im not. I have moved on,
Ive had my times where Id be
looking for something to start up
an investigation again. But that
ship has sailed. Theres something
more to the murders. Im going to
find out what.
LINCOLN closes up the file and stands up. PETERS sits back
and exhales lightly.

49.
PETERS
Mike, Id love to help but we need
to find something to start an
investigation. And Caitlins due
for next month, I just-.
LINCOLN
Its alright buddy, I understand.
Ill see you at the station
tomorrow.
PETERS
Yeah..Ill see you.
LINCOLN slips on his jacket and turns, leaving for the door.
PETERS watches him leave and sighs lightly, picking up his
beer.
CUT TO:
INT. BEDROOM, LINCOLN'S HOME - NIGHT
LINCOLN is sitting in his bed in his bedroom, the room is
dark with an orange light beaming in from the streetlights
outside. He lays back in his bed and stares up at the
ceiling, he clearly cant sleep. He sighs as he sits back for
a couple of seconds before he sits up, pulling the covers off
of him.
CUT TO:
INT. OFFICE, LINCOLN'S HOME - NIGHT
LINCOLN sits at his desk, his mattress is gone, the office is
a bit more furnished. He now has a proper office chair. There
is also a bookshelf against the wall and paintings. There are
files, notes, documents and pictures on his desk. LINCOLN
enjoys a glass of whiskey and he lights himself a cigarette
as he looks over the notes from earlier.
He flips through the file and begins to read through it
properly. LINCOLN squints as he looks through the words.
Followed home by Tranquillity Elementary, spied on at
Faith Victory Fellowship. LINCOLN takes a drag of his
cigarette and continues to read down through it.
He then looks upto where the painting of the black oval was
before. It is gone, although bits of black dirt still remains
on the wall.
