The rise of strategic philanthropy has taken place in parallel to a more business-like and
professional approach to charitable giving. Banks and asset management companies that
have started to offer related services and individuals with a financial background have
set up consultancies to apply their expertise on philanthropy.
Banks offer their services to help donors to identify charities, structures grant
agreements and supervise the implementation of agreement. Some also collect and
publish data that can be used for designing philanthropic programmes.
Venture Philanthropy based on the principles of venture capital investment that offer
organizations managerial and technical support in addition to capital funding and loans.
Venture philanthropists seek to build close relationships with the charities they support in
order to provide access to resources and expertise that might not otherwise be available
to charitable organizations. They also urge caution as social problems are often less
quantifiable and more complex than standard business issues.
