Aims
In this process I would like to find out what effects capitalism has on people's mental
health. More specifically I would like to find out if it causes any symptoms of mental disorders
and what those symptoms cause. It is interesting to investigate the abnormal behaviors caused
by capitalism and what they onset in people and the traits they provoke. So my research
question would be How does capitalism affect mental health? I plan to go about researching
this by looking a different mental disorders and their symptoms; it is important to look at what
causes certain abnormalities in behavior, and how they reflect the effects of capitalism. Which
means I will have to research capitalism as well, and research how a capitalist economy
functions, and the results of how it functions. The results of how it functions will presumably
cause people to act in different ways. I plan to argue that capitalism causes depression and
anxiety, and i will approach this by show how the effects of a capitalist market affect individuals.
The class divide will be a large part in the argument, and so will social division caused by it. I
will connect anxiety and the overly competitive mentality caused by capitalism and link it to
depression because depression and anxiety are usually comorbid. I will highlight the ideas
people have in a capitalist environment and show how some of them may be unhealthy. I will
use suicide to show how depression is serious and that America is one of the world's most
depressed countries despite being one of the most developed.
