B. Thesis
Capitalism causes depression and anxiety because of how it
breeds materialism and unhealthy competition.
II.
Body
A. Class division caused caused by capitalism results in depression because it
breeds overwhelming desire and competition between those not included in
concentration of wealth.
i Symptoms of depression are feeling isolated, and worthless (American
Foundation for Suicide Prevention). These can be caused by feeling the need to self
improve until it becomes self degrading, and being rejected for not being able to have
the latest commodity.
ii These feelings can be directed to the behavioral repercussions of class
divisions that is caused by capitalism (Tejvan). Class division causes people to want to
be part of concentrated wealth promoting unhealthy competition that leads to self
degradation.
B. Materialism is caused by capitalism which onsets depression.
i Feelings of worthlessness come when people can not attain the same
commodities as everyone else, and this results in the group that can afford it
rejecting the less wealthy one. Anxiety is often comorbid with Anxiety(Anxiety and
depression Association of America).
ii 90% of people who commit suicide have a mental disorder which is
usually depression (Khan). America it is one of the most depressed countries even though it is
developed.

C. Anxiety and depression are caused by capitalism which i caused by the competition
created by class division.
