I would like to start out by asking everyone here a question. Why are you
here today? Evidently we are all here in response to millions of refugees pouring
through the Middle East and Europe. Greece alonehastakeninover1.1millionof
them by sea alone, and our neighbor Turkey nearly 2 million. Not to mention
millions more displaced in countries like Syria and Iraq. Though while this is
apparent, I askyouallagain.Whyareyouheretoday?Someofyoumaybehereto

here to disprove such actions. Some of you may be here to offer refuge to these
people, and some may be here to urge others to close their borders. Regardless of
your nations perspective on the issue, none of us can deny that millions of people
are in dire need of our help. It has been estimated that around half of the world's
refugees are under age 18. To be more specific, I can tell you that around 38% of
the refugees arriving on Greek shores are children. This journey by sea is
dangerous, and even when they arrive we seldom have enough supplies for them
all. Children are washing up on the shores of Lesbos, and we smaller countries
cannot help them alone. I urge you all to open your borders to these people, or at
