Cheater
Cheater
On Friday Elliot was kept alert; she sat in shocked silence as his
special assistant completed report.
Elliot started at the six 8x10 photos that Trainor had spread out across
the conference table.
The first two were overall shots of the front and back of the house
that Alberto Paz rented. The third showed the open trapdoor in the
middle of the living room floor. Four, five and six were of Paz.
The last three photos, taken under cramped conditions in the far
corner of the crawl space beneath the house were jarring, even for a
man of Parkinson's extensive field experience.
Henry made a very determined effort to do at least two conflicting
jobs at once supervising the flow of people, information, and evidence
in and out of the meaning of the L'Ques house and he tried to figure
the meaning of the four deeply intend holes in the living room carpet
that were too narrowly spaced to have been made by the missing TV
when one of the uniformed officers came running into the garage.
A crime sense investigator with nothing else on his mind might have
found it interesting to note that the intruder had apparently gone to
the trouble of bringing along a second can of paint to spray bright red
x in the first two names on the list, but Henry was well beyond that
sort of clinical detachment.
On Saturday, a hundred yards west from the spot where Henry had
made his starling discovery, a dark shadowy figure stepped out of the
woods and moved forward, slowly and carefully.
Henry knew that he could go back and check the log, see what kind of
crimes had been committed in this area of Jermantown road at about
that crime of night but he didnt have to do that.
Henry ran down the driveway toward the shed with Carpenter close
behind.
He started go over, and then the explosive roar of a 12 gage and then
he fell.
Henry heard the noises, he could hear the screaming, and he couldnt
be focus because of the stress situation.
Noises, a loud slapping and cry pain were heard and then something
heavy fell against Culvers chest.
Henry saw a man whom he now realized had caused them all so much
grief and pain.
Gauss started to say something, but Russelli screamed violent and he
had to go over to the other side of the room and pretend to hit her
sister.
Henry felt that when the CSI teams finally got down there and started
to put the things in order, the came up with the interesting conclusion
that he got shot by his partner.
They discovered that the striations on that little plastic shot-cup
match up perfectly with lose little burrs in the barrel end of Russelli.
He tried to digest the information, Gauss asked something, when he
did that there was a vehicle parked in her driveway.
On that moment, in the room was suddenly rocked by a series of
explosions that drove Henry Culver, Kathy Harmon, Theodore Gauss,
and Russelli twins to the floor.
They tried to run away through a tunnel, and starting up at the video
screen and laughed at the sight of Theodore gauss the cheater".
He had found the arming and the connecting antenna, in the desktop
computer.
They tried to found the person who was controlled the digger.
But was too late, Bronco vanished in a moment.
