    The 12th Century Priory lay just beyond Sempringham Abbey and was a substantial building - the size of Westminster Abbey. The Priory was demolished in Henry VIII's time and many of the houses in nearby villages were built using the stone from the building. Just before we reach the Abbey there is a memorial stone to Princess Gwenllian who was the daughter of the last ruling prince of Wales, prince llywelyn.

    attheendofthewalk,IhavepermissiontoparkintheCarParkforthestartofthewalk.Thepubisopenfrom12
    midday.
    Route:ThewalkgoesuppastSempringhamAbbey(TheChurchofStAndrews)totheoutskirtsofthehamletof
    BirthorpeandreturnstoPointonviaaGreenLane,whichskirtsawoodedareawhichwasoncethePriorys
    fishponds.
    TerrainRelativelyeasywalkingonfieldpathsandtracks.Someareascouldbemuddy.Sheepweregrazinginone
    ofthefieldsadjacenttothewalk,butnootherlivestockseen.Therearenostilesonthewalk
    AbitofhistoryThe12thCenturyPriorylayjustbeyondSempringhamAbbeyandwasasubstantialbuildingthe
    sizeofWestminsterAbbey.Excavationstookplaceinthe1930s,butthereisnothingtobeseenatgroundlevel.The
    PriorywasdemolishedinHenryVIIIstimeandtheonesavinggraceisthatmanyofthehousesinnearbyvillages
    werebuiltusingthestonefromthebuilding.
    JustbeforewereachtheAbbeythereisamemorialstonetoPrincessGwenllianwhowasthedaughterofthelast
    rulingPrinceofWales,PrinceLlywelyn.EdwardIconsideredherathreattotheEnglishthrone,shouldshehave
    children,soasababyheorderedhertobesenttoliveherlifeoutatthePriory.
