ForPointontravelnorthfromBourneontheA15throughMortonandtaketherightturnsignedforBillingborough
(aftertheHaconbyturn).

Startingpoint10:30amatTheOldShipInn,HighStreet,Pointon.Ifsomeofusarelikelytobecallingintothepub
attheendofthewalk,IhavepermissiontoparkintheCarParkforthestartofthewalk.Thepubisopenfrom12
midday.
Route:ThewalkgoesuppastSempringhamAbbey(TheChurchofStAndrews)totheoutskirtsofthehamletof
BirthorpeandreturnstoPointonviaaGreenLane,whichskirtsawoodedareawhichwasoncethePriorys
fishponds.
TerrainRelativelyeasywalkingonfieldpathsandtracks.Someareascouldbemuddy.Sheepweregrazinginone
ofthefieldsadjacenttothewalk,butnootherlivestockseen.Therearenostilesonthewalk
AbitofhistoryThe12thCenturyPriorylayjustbeyondSempringhamAbbeyandwasasubstantialbuildingthe
sizeofWestminsterAbbey.Excavationstookplaceinthe1930s,butthereisnothingtobeseenatgroundlevel.The
PriorywasdemolishedinHenryVIIIstimeandtheonesavinggraceisthatmanyofthehousesinnearbyvillages
werebuiltusingthestonefromthebuilding.
JustbeforewereachtheAbbeythereisamemorialstonetoPrincessGwenllianwhowasthedaughterofthelast
rulingPrinceofWales,PrinceLlywelyn.EdwardIconsideredherathreattotheEnglishthrone,shouldshehave
children,soasababyheorderedhertobesenttoliveherlifeoutatthePriory.
