andreproved,drovehertofury(Larsen60).ThisquotedemonstratesthatIrenefeelsimpotent
whenshewantstotellherhusbandheropinion,buthedoesntletherpresentit.Irenescharacter
seemstobeconfidentinherthoughts,yetheropinionislimitedbyBrian.Irenefeelsdiscouraged
andshowsthatshehasnotputforthefforttofightback,butsettleswithBrian.Bothofthem
havestrongopinions,butBriantakescontrolandacknowledgestoIrenethatsheiswrong,
leavingnoequalbalanceinmakingadecisioningeneral.
Relationshipshavetheexpectationsofonepersontakingcontrolandtheotherperson
givingnosaywhentryingtocompriseoveradecision.Therefore,Larsenismakingtheclaim
thattodayssocietylabelsmenasthedominantonesinrelationships,andareinchargeof
makingdecisions.Thiscreatesanunhealthyrelationshipbecausethereisnobalancebetween
thetwopeopleinnegotiation,trust,orcommunication.Ifbothpeoplecantcompromiseor
supporteachothersbeliefs,thenitisntarelationship.
However,thisraisesthequestionofwhetherthereshouldbedominanceallowedina
relationship.Womenfeelmorecomfortablewhenamentakecontroloveragreementsand
outcomes.Forsolongwomenhavebeendehumanisedandfeelthatmenaremorepowerfulover
them.Thusallowsmeninarelationshiptobepowerfulmakingwomenfeelinferiortoshare

theirperspective.
