humanlife.Webuildvast,large,grandbuildingsonit,leechitofitsresources.Yet,manyofus
forgettoask,whathappenswhentheresnomorelandtobuildupon,nomoreresourcesto
sustainus?Earthiscurrentlyprovidinguswiththenecessitytosurvive.Therefore,weshould
careforit.
Amajor,andobviousreasonwhyourresourcesaredepleting,isdueourpollution
disturbingthenaturecapitalsystem.Thepollutionfromfactories,cars,theburningoffossil
fuels,hasbeenaffectingmanyanimalshabitat,whichdisturbsthenaturalcycleoftheearth.
Withcertainspeciesdyingout,itaffectsotherspecies.Forexample,withdeerpopulationdying
out,wolvesaredyingout,fortheyrearereproducing,butwithoutafoodsource,theyaredying.
Coralreefs,oneofthemanyorganismsthatproducesoxygenforEarth.Also,thepollution
causessmogtobuildup,whichblocksheatfromthesun.Thisinturnaffectshabitatsinthe
infectedregions.Withoutsustainablehabitatsforanimals,wecreatetheriskofourfoodsources
dyingout,aswellasfreshwaterbecomingtaintedwithpollutes.
Ourfreshwatersourcesaredepletingduetoourinefficiencywiththeuseofit.Weuse
freshwaterintoilets,andshowers.Manypeopletake30minutesshowers,whichisthe
equivalentof10gallonsofwater.TheU.Susesmostofitsfreshwatersupplyonagriculture,and
therunoffwaterfromitishurtingsurroundingarea.Therunoffwaterismixedwithpesticides
andotherchemicalsusedinfarming,andthispollutessoilandwatersourcesnearfarms.This
thenmakesfreshwaterverydifficulttoaccess,fornowthewaterhastogothroughseveralfilters
tobesafetodrink.Thistakestimetodo,andundergroundreservesoffreshwaterarevery

difficulttoreach.ImagineLakeMichigancoveredinoil,anddirtyrunoffwater.Thatwouldbe
horrendoustolookat,andjustsaddening,forLakeMichiganhostsmanyspecies.Life,ina
sense,isdyingbecauseofus.
WhyshouldwesaveourEnvironment?Becauseitstheonlyplacethatweknowofthat
cansustainus.However,thatcantbesaidinthenext50or100years,attheratethatweare
going.Yet,wecanstillpreventthisfromhappen.Ifweenforcehabitatrestorations,orprevent
nationalparksfrombeingbuiltuponwithbuildings,wecansavetheenvironment.Wealsoneed
tosaveourenvironmentbecauseitssobeautiful.Tallpinetreesarebeingreplacedwitha
building,clearlakesarebeingbutcheredwithpipestoharvestwater.Longfieldsoflushgreen
forests,arebeingrippedapartbycoalminingprojects.Magnificentspeciesaredyingout
becauseofhumansdestroyingtheirhabitats.Saveourenvironmenttokeepitbeautiful,andto
remindourselveshowblandtheworldwouldbewithtallslabsofsteelinsteadoftalltrees,
lushingwithlife.
