Howdoyouthinkitfeelstoreadmessageslikethataboutyourselforsomeone
youcareabout?

2.Read:Cyberbullyinghasbecomemorecommonbecauseoftwomainreasons:its
easytosendamessageanditcanbedoneanonymously.Becausepeoplecansenda
messageanonymously,theyoftensaythingsthattheywouldneversaytosomeones
face.Theycansaythingsthataremeanandhurtful.Itmightbeeasytosaythese
things,butitisveryhardtohearthem.Themessagesstickandcanberemembered
foralongtime.
Itisalsoveryeasytospreadamessagefrompersontoperson.Inminuteshundreds,
oreventhousands,ofpeoplecanbegivingtheiropiniononasubject.Ifpeopleare
sayingbadthingsaboutoneperson,eachpersonmightonlybesayingonething,butit
canquicklyaddup.Remember:anythingwrittenorpostedontheInternetisforever
andcangoimmediatelyanywhereintheworldforanyonetosee.

GAME(10minutes)
1. Handoutonepieceofpapertoeverystudent.
2. Tellyourclassyouregoingtogivethemoneminute.Inthatminutetheyhaveto
writeameancommentonthepieceofpaper.Nothingviolentorrudejustthe
kindofthingsomeonemightwriteontheInternetaboutsomeonetheydontlike.
3. Whentheyhavewrittensomething,theyhavetopassthepapertosomeoneelse
whodoesthesamething,whothenpassesittosomeoneelse,andsoonforone
minute.
4. Thestudentsaretryingtowriteasmanycommentsastheycanonasmany
piecesofpaperastheycaninoneminute.
5. Whentheminuteisupsay,Stop.
6. Tellthestudentstoimaginetheyhavejustfoundawebsitethathasalotof
commentsaboutthem.Tellthemtoreadthecommentsonthepaperimagining
thatthosecommentsareonthiswebsiteandareaboutthem.
7. Haveadiscussionabouthowitfeelstoreadthesethings.
8. Dothegameagain.Handoutonesheetofpaperperstudent(orturnthesheet
over),butthistimeinsteadofmeanandhurtfulcomments,everyonehastowrite
somethingpositiveandnice.
9. Afteroneminuteofpassingthepaperaroundhavethemimaginetheyrereading
allthesethingsaboutthemselves.Askthemthedifferenceinhowitfeelsfor
themtoreadthenegativeandpositivecommentsandhowitmustfeelforanother
studentto.
