GENERAL PRESENTATION

2.1

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTION

The Remote maintenance function implements remote communication between a
station fitted with a modem (and a site network connection if remote maintenance is
cascaded) and a second Centralog XP station in order to permit the following
procedures:
accessing the Web servers hosted on the Centralog, (HDSR, HMI, Maintenance
Server, Event Viewer)
taking remote command of the Centralog station
When Windows XP starts on the Centralog station, the remote call monitoring
function starts automatically.
Access to the Web servers embedded in the Centralog
After establishing the connection by modem, access is available via an Internet
browser. Access restriction functions are ensured by the Web servers.

2.2

DEFINITIONS
Remote Assistance: Windows XP software providing assistance from a remote
station for a local computer running Windows. The software includes access, chat
and monitoring functions.
Remote Desktop Connection: Windows XP software allowing access to a local
computer running Windows from a remote station.
Server station / local station: Site station whose operator authorizes a remote
station to take control of remote maintenance operations.
Client station / remote station / remote maintenance station: Station
used by the remote maintenance service (Massy) to perform remote maintenance
operations on one or more external stations.
Simple remote maintenance: Client station connected directly to the server
station (modem or network connection) using the Remote Assistance software.
Cascaded remote maintenance: Client station connected to a server station
via a relay station (running Windows XP). Remote maintenance is carried on by
using Remote Assistance on the relay station where the operator sets up a Remote
Desktop connection (from his client station) to contact the server station (see chap.
5.5).

2.3

REMOTE MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS

When the connection is established and Remote Assistance is started, the remote
maintenance station provides remote access to the following operator functions:
access to Centralog commands and views (as with local use)
remote file loading, delivery of anomaly correction components (retrieval or
posting of upload / download files)
communication via a chat system between the remote maintenance station and the
Centralog station
The following functions are not implemented in the current version:
remote modification of the local station Windows XP session (exe, clg etc.) while
safeguarding the current remote maintenance session
remote restart of the local station while safeguarding the current remote
maintenance session
masking of the local display during the connection (this is possible only if Remote
Desktop is used)
access to Ctrl Break type commands (the local station can be shut down using
other commands only if Remote Desktop is used).
Differences between Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop
The Remote Assistance application enables a remote maintenance operator to use an
Internet connection to access a local station and supply any necessary help. The
remote operator sees the screen of the local station and can communicate with this
station via a dialogue box. After invitation and authorization, he can monitor the local
station for maintenance purposes.
The use of Remote Assistance (remote maintenance software of choice) is described in
paragraphs 5.1 to 5.3.
The Remote Desktop application is used to access a Windows session running on the
local station from another station. This provides access to all the applications and
files on the local station, under the same conditions that apply to any user logging on
to a station (user name + password).
The use of Remote Desktop (supplementary and extension maintenance software) is
described in paragraph 5.4.

2.4

REQUISITE HARDWARE
Centralog station (local)
This station must be fitted with an internal Connextant Soft K56 Data Fax PCI modem

CONNECTION
To be able to give another user remote access to your station, you must first transmit
an invitation. This invitation is created from your server station, and is then sent to the
remote maintenance station by mail.
For the Remote Assistance software to function, the server station must be logged on
to the session that has transmitted the invitation; the client station must also be
connected with the server station by means of the "Dial-up" connection previously
configured. Once the client station is connected, the server station can access the
P320 Web gateway via the "Dial-up" connection by inputting the IP address of the
server station in the address bar of the Internet browser. This gateway gives access to
the remote functions of the Centralog: HDSR, Historian, Maintenance Server, CLOG
SQL, etc.

6.3

TAKING CONTROL OF THE CENTRALOG SERVER STATION

6.3.1

Simple Remote Maintenance

Remote maintenance operation executed from a Windows XP client station connected
directly to the Centralog XP server station (internet or network connection), only
available when using the Remote Assistance software.
After configuring the connection (Ch. 3.1) and Remote Assistance (Ch. 3.2 , 5.1 and
5.2), the procedure is as described above (Ch. 5.3).

6.3.2

Cascaded Remote Maintenance

Remote maintenance operation executed from a client station connected to a
Windows XP relay station (internet connection, use of Remote Assistance and the
associated chat function). From this relay station (controlled from the local station),
the remote maintenance operator will take control of the 3rd station (server station)
by using the site network and Remote Desktop commands.
After configuring the respective connections (Ch. 3.1) and the help software (Ch. 5.1,
5.2 and 5.3), the procedure is as described in Chapters 5.3 and 5.4)
Note on control: Communication between the client station and the relay station is
managed by Remote Assistance by means of an invitation (***.msrcincident,
password) and an authorization (name user / password). Access to the server station
is managed by Remote Desktop, by means of an authorization (user name /
password) demanded on connection.
Note on displays: When cascaded remote maintenance is established, the last
station displays a single window corresponding to a session logon prompt inviting the
local user to retake control. As this station is redirected to the relay station (where
Remote Assistance displays an observation window), the local operator can see the
maintenance operations carried out remotely on his server station via this window.
