GREENE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL After School Activities September 2015 Greene Schoo! offers various after school activities to give students the opportunity to participate in special interest areas in a structured school environment, All activities are offered to fifth and sixth grade boys and girls unless otherwise specified. Activity groups meet immediately after third dismissal bell and in most cases end at 3:50 p.m. '‘UDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP PROMPTLY Cc ‘LI |ON OF THE ACTIVITIES IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE. STUDENTS SHOULD LISTEN TO MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MORE INFORMATION REGARDING SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES. PERMISSION SLIPS: Permission slips will be available about two weeks before the activity begins. Students should pick up appropriate permission forms from the office and return the completed forms according to the sponsor’s instructions, CLASS ENROLLMENT: Many activities are very popular and fill up quickly. Enrollment will be done on a first come, first serve basis. Be sure to follow the sponsor’s instructions when turning in permission slips. ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT GREENE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL Instruction in the fundamentals of basketball will be offered beginning Feb. 22nd. Location: New Gym Sponsor: Mr. Tobergte and Mr. Simon Dates: February 22,24,25,26.29 March 2,3,4,7,9,10,11,14,16,17 BOYS’ BASKETBALL Basketball tournament play will be offered to fifth and sixth grade students. New teams will be created each week based on a random drawing, Individual wins will be tallied to determine students on winning team. Location: New Gym Sponsor: Mr. Kelly and Mr, Sandor Dates: September 21, 22, 23, 29,30 October 1,5, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 VOLLEYBA ‘Volleyball tournament play will be offered in January & February to fifth and sixth grade students. New teams will be created each week based on a random drawing. Individual wins will be tallied to determine students on winning team. Location: New Gym Sponsors: Mrs. Schnieders and Mr. Sandor Dates: January: 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 27, 28,29 February 1, 2,3, 4 STUDENT COUNCIL Campaigns are held in fifth and sixth grade, and homerooms will elect representatives for this school year. Elections will be held the week of September 21st-25th and the first General Council Meeting will be held Oct, 13th. Meetings will take place on Tuesdays after school throughout the year and members will be given their calendar of dates at our first meeting Location: Varies - Will be announced Sponsors: Mrs. Mulvaney & Mr. Tobergte Members of Student Council will meet on Tuesdays after school depending on their subgroup. CHESS CLUB Any Sth or 6th grade Greene School student may participate in this activity. Teams will be created to compete with each other and the activity is open to students who want to learn or improve their game. Location: Media Center Sponsor: Ms. Dream Dates: Oct. 13,20,27 Nov. 3,10,17,24 Dee. 1,815 Jan.5,12,19,26 Feb. 2 COMPUTER CLUB ‘Computer club is designed for students experienced with computer use who want to share their acquired technology skills; through video-taping, video editing projects, web pages, designing an online newspaper, and sharing software expertise with others, The students in computer club will be using digital video equipment and computers to produce video programs. The students will build on their skills in Power Point, Publisher and Word while leaming to use Final Cut Pro as they create and produce videos, Location: Room 50-57 Sponsors: Mrs. Burklow & Mrs, Borden-Thomas Dates: This activity will begin in September and run through February. Participants will “show what they know” and sign up for projects. Editing sessions will take place after school on Mondays or Wednesdays, Evening video-taping activities will also be scheduled throughout the year. More information about specific session dates will be given to students on their first class visit R.LV.E, The primary goal of this club is to help students develop social and philanthropic awareness. Students will learn about appropriate social behaviors in a variety of different settings and apply them during field trips such as a dinner, movie, athletic events, as educational ambassadors, and several community service events, STRIVE club is a community service club which serves the greater Sycamore community, Location: South Art Room/Enrichment Room, Rm. 57 Sponsors: Mrs. Borden-Thomas and Mrs. Burklow Dates: Oct. 20,22,27 Nov. 3,12,17,18,24 Dee. 1,3,8,10, 15,17 Jan. 5,7 A schedule of events and service projects will be given to participants, as soon as sponsors receive input from students and assess community needs. FLAG FOOTBALL - Football tournament play will be offered beginning in the Spring to fifth and sixth grade students, New teams will be created each week based on a random drawing. Individual wins will be tallied to determine students on winning team, Location: Outside field or New Gym Sponsors: Mr. Kelly and Mr. Sandor Dates: March 29, 30,31 April 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 MEDIA PRODUCTION 4 This club will be taping, editing, and producing events around our school. Many times, teachers are in need of someone with expertise to help with a project in their classroom as well. The students will be trained using Digital Video cameras to tape Concerts, football games, drama performances and other activities during the school year. A culminating project for the group will be a video of “Life at the Greene School” production, Students will be using Final Cut Pro for editing. The students will be given opportunities to video-tape high school football games and run the morning TV show at E.H. Greene Dates: This activity will be on Monday/Wednesday beginning in October and running throughout the school year. Participants will schedule their after school dates after they decide on projects they will be working on. This opportunity for flexible scheduling will help the students to work on projects at their convenience throughout the school year, Location: Media Center Sponsors: Mrs. Burklow and Mrs. Borden-Thomas PARTNERS CLUB Partner's Club promotes age appropriate interaction between students with and without special needs. Our primary goals are to have fun and learn how to help each other! Partners Club is open to both 5" and 6" grade students and starts in October. Meetings will be held once a week. You must tum in a signed permission slip prior to the first meeting. Forms will be available in the front lobby bin. Meetings will usually be held every other week, but a schedule will be given at our first meeting. Please listen to the morning announcements for more details! Sponsors: Mrs. Ganz, Mrs. Cummings, Mr. Heckman MATH & SCIENCE CONFERENCE We are pleased to be able to work with Miami University to provide a challenging and exciting Saturday morning for the students of E. H, Greene, Various sessions will be offered to explore math and science using hands on activities, Location: E. H. Greene Intermediate Sponsors: Mrs. Allred, Mrs. Mulvaney Ms, Brubaker and Mrs. Young Dates: March/April BOWLING LEAGUE @ This league meets on Thursdays, beginning Oct. Ist. Transportation will be provided to Ringo Lanes. Students must be picked up at Ringo Lanes at 4:45 p.m. Sign up for this activity requires a permission form which is available at the school office. Sign-up will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis to fill the spots for 72 team bowlers. Anyone who turns in a permission slip but does not make the fall league will get first chance at participating in the winter bowling league. GREENE ART CLUB This club is for the Greene student who has a love for art and would like to spend more time in the art department developing their artistic eye. The E. H. Greene Art Club will explore a variety of media such as painting, textiles, sculpture and installation art, Student will be able to meet professional artists, be inspired by their fellow classmates as they work collaboratively, and have the opportunity to have their work displayed both in the school and the community. There will be two sessions of Art Club. Both will meet on Tuesdays and. Thursdays afier school until 3:50. Students must be able to have transportation promptly at that time. I will take the first 20 students who apply. Attendance is monitored. If you have conflicts of schedule and will miss many classes, please keep this in mind so others can participate. If you like plants or just want to help out, we would love for you to join our club. This year we will be helping to maintain our school gardens and beautify and ‘maintain the inside of our school by adding new plants and flowers. Location: Room 57 Sponsor: Ms, Borden-Thomas Dates: Fall - September 22, 24, 29, Oct. 1,6,8,13,15 Spring - April $,6,12,14,19,21,26,28 Field trips would extend our meeting time and parents would be informed of the modification of our meeting times/dates, GREENE MACHINE Greene Machine is a show choir combining singing with dance, Students learn correct vocal technique and dance routines to enhance the music, Students must audition for this group and attend a clinic prior to the audition to learn the song and dance required for the audition, This group meets Mondays and Thursdays after school until 4:00pm and it runs from September to May. Ifa student wants to participate in another after school activity only one of the two days will be mandatory, but a written note from the other clubs sponsor will be required.
