PLN Group Reflection

After viewing the model and discussing the expectations in class, our
group decided to create a Twitter Chat for our project. We chose to use
Twitter because so many of our colleagues are familiar with this form of
social media. Teachers use Twitter to show case their classrooms,
communicate with other offices in Baltimore County and inform faculty and
staff of upcoming events. Moreover, Baltimore County encourages
professionals to use Twitter as their preferred medium of communication. In
class, we discussed our overarching theme, creating our questions and
discussed our hopeful outcomes. Our questions consisted of other
professionals thoughts on PLNs, what resources they have used to create
PLNs, and how they have grown professionally from the use of PLNs. After
creating the questions, we then discussed a time and date for our Twitter
chat. With the school year coming to an end, we decided it would be best to
collaborate with other educators before summer break in order to ensure
meaningful participation. We choose to invite our classmates on Wednesday,
June 15th at 6:30 pm. The time chosen would allow for greater participation
and rich discussion. We invited our classmates from ET630, social media
friends and colleagues from each of our schools. The schedule we chose for
our chat, allowed for adequate think-time, and opportunities for readers to
process posts and provide feedback. We set our five questions ten minutes
apart from one another and the overall Twitter chat took about an hour.
Looking back, as a whole, we would have made a few modifications to our
Twitter Chat. For starters, we need to remind all users to have a public

account to ensure that others can view their tweets. Also, we noticed that
our questions seemed to be mildly redundant. Thus, next time we will make
our questions more diverse. Overall, the experience was informative and
enlightening. Participants gained knowledge and now want to host their own
Twitter chats in order to build school PLNs.
