Coring
General :
the process of removing a cylindrical sample, or core,
from soil, rock, or paved surfaces.
In Petroleum engineering
the process of cutting a vertical, cylindrical sample of the
formations encountered as a well is drilled.

-ROTARY CORINGKEYWORD : WHOLE CORE

ROTARY Coring
Using coring bit
with hole in the
center and a
combination of
barrel & catcher.
The core obtained
from this method is
called a whole core.

Rotary coring

-SIDEWALL CORINGKEYWORD : CORE PLUG

Sidewall Coring
This type of coring
method obtains smaller
core samples.
cylindrical core barrels
that can shot in
sequence from the gun
into the formation.
The core obtained from
this method is called a
core plug

Sidewall Coring

-HIGH PRESSURE CORINGKEYWORD : CORE PLUG

High pressure coring

to get the core samples in its original conditions
to avoid any loss of the fluids
With high pressure:
Freezing the core
Depressurize the core

SUMMARY
