Process Memo

My project is an informative brochure that features the benefits of

hyperloop transportation. Specifically, it provides information on how
integrating hyperloop transportation and its infrastructure into modern
society can resolve environmental, economic and urban development issues.
My target audience are my peers, that is, students of academia, as I wish to
persuade the next generation of industry about the viability and benefits of
hyperloop, and get them involved in the movement for reformed
transportation. The overall goal of my brochure, thus, is to raise awareness
and hopefully inspire the involvement of new business, engineering,
environmental, and social leaders in this venture.
I chose a brochure as my multimodal source, as it allows me the
ability to provide information both visually and textually. It is appealing to
my audience because it is simple, eye-catching, easily distributed and
provides valuable information that will hopefully inspire my readers to
inquire more about the subject. Additionally, I was able to use a variety of
techniques to persuade my audience of hyperloop's viability and
importance. The following describes how and why I did this.
Firstly, my brochure is split up into five major sections: background,
the economic impact, the social impact, the environmental impact, and
contact information. For each of the major topics, I attempted to provide
statistical, graphical, and textual information. This is to draw attention to

the wide range of positive effects this technology can have. My goal was to
present data with an impact, and to create a comparative frame of
reference with regards to other forms of transportation. This information
only scratches the surface of research out there, as the intent is simply to
inspire further inquiry and consideration, but what I provide is intended to
grab my readers' attention and introduce them to new concepts. Lastly,
since the primary purpose of this brochure is to get more people interested
in hyperloop and helping to integrate it into modern society, I made the
objective of the brochure clear by inviting my readers to seek local change
and opportunities. To do so, I included a section for contact information and
chose to feature a call to action, so to reach out to my audience and give
them an obligation to get involved.
With regards to layout, I split each section by bullet points,
highlighting the primary functions of hyperloop with respect to the section's
topic. This helped me present concise information with a clear purpose. On
each page is a picture or graph contributing to the topics discussed in that
section. On the second page I featured a carbon emissions pie chart to show
how much of a contributor transportation is to our overall greenhouse gas
production. On latter pages, I featured graphs and displays to show how
hyperloop can resolve these issues, along with its other benefits such as
speed and low cost.

Next, I chose to bold topic headlines and provide additional pictures,

such as accumulated traffic and solar panels, to help readers develop an
image of the issue at hand and what hyperloop can do to solve the energy
crisis. This will hopefully be processed and remain in the subconscious of
the reader, inspiring later thought. Additionally, I took the liberty of using
vernacular that I expect people of academia, specifically tech-savvy persons,
are comfortable with. And for resources, I was able to draw upon the
original set of references I made for the first assignment, many of which
were research papers and science articles. These provided the tables and
graphs seen in the brochure, which convey valuable comparative
information. I ordered my references after this memo so not to obstruct the
flow of the brochure, but featured numerical notes so to still credit the
sources I used in forming this project.
In summation, I used concise visual and textual techniques to convey
relevant information on the viability and need for hyperloop transportation.
My brochure covers cost, social, and environmental spectra, portraying the
interdisciplinary scope of this problem with a multimodal genre. This genre
will hopefully help enlighten the future leaders of industry, and inspire them
to further the research and development of hyperloop.
