REACTION PAPER

The Bicol Medical Center conducted a seminar last February

9, 2016 about Blood donation. It was offered to 3 rd and 4th year
level students who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Medical
Technology. Its aim is to educate us students about the things
that we needed to know about blood donation primarily because
we are inclined in the field of medicine and time will come that
we will be the one to conduct blood donation.
Mr. Macatangay, the speaker gave us the information that
we really need to know. Here are the things that were given
emphasis: Procedure for voluntary blood donation, people who
can donate blood, benefits of voluntary blood donation, its
mechanics, advice, and the blood donor venipuncture and
handling. Ive learned that if we become a volunteer blood donor
our production of new blood cells will be stimulated. We can
check our personal health including blood type, blood pressure
and determination of hemoglobin level. Also, we will be given
priority in case of blood needs. And lastly, it boosts self worth.
Thru becoming a volunteer for donating blood, there is that
satisfaction that we will be having every time we donate blood,
we save lives. But of course, we need to know the things that we
should do like having a good rest is very much important, having
light meal to avoid dizziness, and being not just physically but
also mentally prepared. In donating blood we just dont save
others lives but also our life. Every time we donate blood, the
practitioners get samples and screen it using highest quality
screening tests for 5 TTIs: HIV 1&2, VDRL, heap b & c, and
malaria. In this seminar we are also taught on how to perform
blood donation. We even had demonstration about the proper
positioning and procedure to avoid problems.
Indeed, Every blood donor is a Hero. With our blood many
lives will be saved, many lifespan will extend because of our
generosity and selfless giving. It is not just for others advantage,

it is also ours. Simple act of donating blood can be a big help to

other people in need. As a medical student, the drive and
initiative of changing lives should start within us.
