Lesson Plan for March 16th


C.C. & State Standard(s): CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.OA.A.1 Represent addition and
subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings1, sounds (e.g., claps),
acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
Objective(s): Students will be able to identify the difference between addition and
subtraction problems.
Student Friendly Objective(s): I can solve math addition problems.
Assessment: Students will be able to complete the math problems that are
presented on the board.
Key Vocabulary: Addition
Anticipatory Set: Today we will be practicing how we add two numbers together to
get an answer!
Recall Prior Knowledge: Have examples of addition and subtraction problems
written on the board. Have the students come up to the board and mark the
problems that are addition.
Input/Modeling: Model how we add two numbers together to get one bigger
number. Using drawings of different objects, I will model adding them together.
Check for Understanding/Guided Practice: I will give examples of math
problems and children will take turns coming up and solving the problem.
Closure: Do some more challenging math problems.
Independent Practice: N/A
Differentiated Instruction/Accommodations: I can use different methods of
addition, using hands or manipulatives in order to cater to different needs of
students.
