Geography Revision-

Map Skills

To use a map you need to know how to read it correctly. The key step you need
to take is to look at the compass correctly and then to find a specific place go-

Along the corridor and up the stairs-

This shows the steps you take to highlight

specific areas!

OS Maps can have different scales but the most

common one is 1:50,000- This means one
centimetre on the map is equal to 50,000 centimetres or kilometres on land.

Settlement

Settlement relates to MEDC and LEDC and the features they contain.

The ones I have focused on are West Quay, Merry Hill, Bed Zed and Dongtan. It
also contains information on Burgess and Hoyt models and also Multiple Nuclei
Model (Settlement Hierarchy)

West Quay is powered by geothermal heat which contains things like rock from
volcanoes.

Liverpool is well known for Ports many years ago as it was near the sea. It also
had easy access away from the city.

Westfield Merry Hill shopping centre is located in Brierley Hill near Dudley, West
Midlands, England. It was built by tarmac constructions. It has around 310 stores
which makes the centre the fourth largest in the United Kingdom.

To look at the models see attached sheets.

Rivers

Rivers happen in many different stages-

Upper, Middle and Lower course are the 3 stages. A river starts at the source and
ends at the mouth where it joins the sea. As the water travels down the river
the shape changes from starting at a steep V shape and then turning into
a flat piece of land. The discharge (amount of water flowing) will increase as the
river approaches the sea as it becomes wider but the current becomes smaller.
