STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES & ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to attend each class and should read the sections/chapters prior to the
lecture. Attendance in this class will follow the “world of work” policy. Coming to class is your
job. Showing up for work on time is a part of your contract. Tardiness and absence will affect
your “pay” (your grade) as attendance will count for nearly 10% of your overall grade.
You may “call in sick” before class only in extreme health emergencies or college related
activities. You will be allowed the following:
• three (3) excused absences for those classes that meet 3 days per week
• two (2) excused absences for those classes that meet 2 days per week
• one (1) excused absence for those classes that meet 1 day per week
Assignments are due at the beginning of the class time on the due date. Late assignments may
be accepted within one week of the due date; however, will be subject to a point deduction of
20%. (For instance, an assignment with 25 possible points would be reduced to 20 possible
points.) If you do miss class (for whatever reason), IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT
WHAT YOU MISSED either from a “colleague” or from your “boss”.
Note: Chapter outline assignments are the exception to this as late outlines will only be accepted at the
following class period.

An open lab will be available in the library to complete any assignments and/or lab projects.

Note: The Blackboard Learning System will be implemented in this class. Student usernames
and passwords will need to be obtained from Student Records or Counseling. Both
offices are located in the Administration Building.

QUIZZES
Quizzes, announced or unannounced, may be given at any time. Make-up quizzes will not be
given. (This also applies to those who choose to be late for class or leave early.)

TESTS
There will be six tests. All test questions will be derived from the lectures, reading assignments,
and lab sessions. Questions may include fill-in the blank, multiple choice, matching, and/or short
essay. Exams must be taken at their scheduled time, as make-up tests are not allowed.
Exceptions to this rule will require prior instructor consent and verification of absence.

GRADING
The final grade will be determined by the calculation of attendance, lab/project assignments,
quizzes, and tests.
Attendance 100 pts
Assignments 210 pts Note: The point distribution listed may
Quizzes 100 pts be modified as deemed necessary.
