Assignment 1A

Constructivists vs Behaviourist

No theory is better than the other, both explain the concept of learning but from different
perspectives.

♣ Constructivist maintained that learning should be interactive to promote higher- learning

and social presence, and also to help develop personal meaning. It is the development of new
knowledge skill, and attitude as the learner interacts with the information and the
environment.
♣ Behaviourist maintained that learning is a change in observable behaviour that the learner
has learned something.
♣ Constructivist claimed that the learner should be encouraged to work collaborately and
cooperately with others to facilitate learning
♣ Behaviourist claimed that learners should be told the explicit outcome so that they can set
expectations and can judge for themselves whether or not they have achieved the outcome
on line lesson.
♣ Constructivists claimed that learners should be given control of the learning process. There
should be a form of guided discovery where learners are allowed to make decision on learning
goals, but with some guided from the teacher
