Dear Richard,

Thank you for your thoughtful proposal. I welcome any opportunities to talk
about the critical role New York's next Attorney General will have in getting
government working again. As the only candidate in this race who has not been
elected or appointed to political office, the only campaign I know how to run is as
an outsider who takes his message straight to the voters. I have been taking my
message of reform and personal accountability directly to the people since Day 1
- and New Yorkers across this state have responded with overwhelming
encouragement and support.

Debates are an important part of any campaign. In fact, I look forward to our
debate on Saturday afternoon sponsored by the Dutchess County Democratic
Committee - in which I understand you, Eric Dinallo and Eric Schneiderman will
participate. During this discussion, I hope you and the other participating
candidates will join me in calling for critical reforms that New Yorkers need to
clean up corruption in state government, such as full disclosure of all outside
income for state legislators. The bottom line is that any responsible ethics bill
must require full disclosure of outside contracts and clients, including the source
of that additional income.

Moreover, I hope you will take the opportunity at this debate to join me in
supporting Mayor Koch's proposal for nonpartisan redistricting. Because while
debates are an important part of any election, it is equally if not more important
for those elections to be competitive and fair, which is currently not the case. We
must begin to restore trust in government by insuring accountability. New
Yorkers rightly sense a rigged process - one that was created by incumbents and
favors incumbents. Not only is their faith in government undermined but our very
democracy is threatened by this kind of gerrymandering.

Those are just a few of the issues that I look forward to discussing with you, Eric
and Eric on Saturday. Thank you again for your thoughtful letter. I am more than
happy to work with you and the other candidates in this race to schedule as
many debates as necessary and possible. Please contact my office at
212.557.6100 to move ahead with next steps.

Thank you, and see you on Saturday.

Best,

Sean Coffey
Democratic Candidate
New York Attorney General
