maintained signals to the bad guys that you are a block with
pride, a block that cares and a block that looks out for each Annual Neighborhood Picnic
other. Thats exactly the message you want them to get so
they look elsewhere to do their dirt. So hey, get that child, & Marketplace
grandchild to run the mower over that lawn thats about to
be 3 feet tall, it may cost you a little gas but it could save
you a lot more in aggravation and maybe property values.
Since the last newsletter, Ive met with Mr. Lewis
Jordan CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority. We
discussed the fact that there are only 118 families receiving
Section 8 vouchers as a result of the Transformation of
Public Housing. There are, however, others through HUD
and those that were in the community before the
Transformation. As a result of the meeting, Alderman
Michelle Harris and I are holding a joint Property Owners
meeting in July with all the landlords that received
vouchers. The purpose is to define for them our values and
mores and expectations from their tenants and their
responsibilities as owners to the community.
This past week we saw the perfect example of absentee
ownership in a bungalow community. The owner of the
property at 8220 S. Rhodes rented the home to tenants who
moved out and left both dogs and cats in the house,
according to news accounts. The neighbors say she would
return to the home periodically to feed the animals but the
stench was overbearing. After numerous complaints Police
and Fire entered the home to find the dead animals and you
saw the results on the news.
