Tattoos:

A Form of Expression or Hidden Messages

For centuries, tattoos have been used for many things. Some use them as a way to remember a
love one, to express their inner thoughts, to show that they are a member of a group or simply
to add to their personality.

But should we read into the tattoo as something more? For some, these works of art have been
viewed as trashy or slutty. Some tattoos have even been labeled as the “Tramp Stamp.” Is it the
tattoo that makes the person slutty or is it the person that makes the tattoo slutty?

The popularity of the tattoo has increased over the years. Everything from butterflies to tribal
markings can be found across the lower backs of pre-teen to mature adults all across the world.
I’m sure if the question was asked to a group who were “inked” up, you would not get that they
were used as a hidden message. But with the stigma that is placed on “tats,” what are you
really saying?
