Man found dead due to heat stroke

A 54-year-old man died inside a passenger jitney last Tuesday April 13 due to heat stroke.

The driver named Eduardo Jose together with the barker found the lifeless body of Bonifacio
Zeta, a former seaman, and a resident of San Anton Street, Sampaloc Manila, around 10 am at
the back right seat of the jitney.

They immediately asked for police assistance and rushed the victim using the same jitney to the
Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival by the
attending physician, Dr. Steve Arellano due to overexposure to excessive heat. Closer
examinations on the body of the victim show no discernible external injuries.

According to the sister of the victim, Luzviminda Zeta, his brother was on his way to Divisoria.
Police Officer 3 Jonathan Ruiz said that the body of the victim was transferred to an authorized
police morgue for further examinations.

The Department of Health warns the public on heatstroke, one of the most severe form of illness
this summer. It is a condition where the body has been exposed to too much heat and was not
able to cool down. The symptoms of such illness are flushed skin, faintness, dizziness, weakness
and headache which could lead to a feeling of having a very high fever, quick heartbeat, and
convulsion.

It is strongly advised to not to stay out in the sun too long, wear loose and comfortable clothes as
much as possible and drink plenty of water instead of softdrinks.
