Maruti Suzuki India Limited is a publicly listed automaker in India. It is a
leading four-wheeler automobile manufacture in South Asia.

Suzuki Motor corporation of Japan holds a majority stake in the company.

It was the first company in India to mass-produce and sell more than a
million cars.

Its manufacturing plant, located some 25 km south of New Delhi in Gurgaon,


has an installed capacity of 3,50,000 units per annum, with a capability to
produce about half a million vehicles.

The company has a portfolio of 11 brands


Maruti Suzuki is one of the India's leading automobile
manufacturers and the market leader in the car segment.

Until recently, 18.28% of the company was owned by the Indian


government, and 54.2% by Suzuki of Japan.

The company annually exports more than 50,000 cars and has
an extremely large domestic market in India selling over 730,000
cars annually.

Maruti 800 till 2004, was the India's largest selling compact car
ever since it was launched in 1983.

Each and every vendor of the Maruti Suzuki manufactures every


component and sub-component bearing in mind the 'one-gram'
principle .

This is mainly aimed at reducing costs.


Eg .Lumax is currently busy in manufacturing its incandescent
light components lighter by a gram each.

According to MSIL, weight up to 2.6 kg is the target reduction per


car, which works out to Rs 50 per kilo in cost saving, and further
translates into savings of Rs 130 per car.

India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India has announced to phase out
its much talked Maruti 800 car model in 13 cities from April. Maruti 800 was
introduced in India in 1982 and since then, the model has been a brand
model for numerous customers.

Maruti Suzuki is considering to introduce the diesel version of its SX4 car.
Developed by Japanese and Italian automakers Suzuki and Fiat, Suzuki
SX4 is a compact car.

Maruti Suzuki India is planning to launch a new version of Alto, one of the
highest selling cars in India.The new model is said to have a bigger engine
with one-liter petrol engine.
