Silver ribbons and stolen wedding rings

Our autumn-leaf sidewalk is gilded with bells, and

the moon is lost somewhere in the river
drowning together with the Victorian lampposts

      Dusky shadows of empty fireplaces

My face shimmers, sepia in café facades

Smiling and cosy like the chandeliers inside, and
The couples sipping mocha below the glass flowers

      The starlight tastes like lemonade

Don't you remember the leaves we trod underfoot?

Like the chain of candles on the ship harbour, we
Swayed in the wind, and burned till midnight

A treasure chest full of nothing but dust

But how long has it been? The streetlight doesn't shiver like
last decade, engraved into the puddles after the rain.
Because some things change, without changing at all

And some things just leave without saying goodbye

When I open this box in my heart, I'll forget the flowers

that faded when the summer slipped away
by laughing. But when the silence returns,

I'll remember again that the bells have lost their voices.
