Leadership Quality: Inner life with the Lord

When the Lord chooses a person for His service, He begins the process of
preparation quite early, right from the beginning of his/her life. The Servant of
the Lord (the Messiah) says, “Before I was born the Lord called me; from my
birth he has made mention of my name” and then proceeds to describe his
preparation. This was true of Jeremiah (Jer.1:5), John the Baptist (Lk.1:15) and
the apostle Paul (Gal.1:15). God prepares His leaders well in advance.

INNER LIFE WITH THE LORD:

The most important quality of a Christian leader is his personal, inner life
with God. This is more important than his education, his training, his skills and
abilities. When the Lord sent Samuel to Jesse’s home to anoint one of his sons,
Samuel thought that Eliab, the eldest was the chosen one. The Lord said, “Do
not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord
does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward
appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Sam.16:7) and then He led him
to anoint David. The Lord had known the heart of David, his inner life and
chose him though he was just a shepherd boy. Introducing David to Saul, one
of his servants listed his abilities: He “knows how to play the harp. He is a
brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine looking man” and then
he said, “And the Lord is with him.” That was the crowning qualification.

PASSION FOR THE LORD:

Not only was David intimate with his Lord but also he had a burning
passion for His name and His glory. Glory of God should be the dominant
objective of the leader. Early in his life, David demonstrated the qualities of a
godly leader.

Here are 4 lessons to learn in spite of what problems we are facing as leaders:
1. God’s eyes watch over everything; he does not despise small
beginnings.
2. God’s leaders must not lose sight of God’s plans and spiritual
resources.
3. God can make your mountainous problem into a molehill if we trust
him.
4. God works through humble, available & reliable people who seek His
glory.
“Who we are before God is much more important than what we do for
Him.”
