Requirements and Procedures for Nurses for Residence in NZ

Minimum Requirements:
• Must have a Degree or Diploma in Nursing deemed to be equivalent to
Level 7 on the NZQA list (The theoretical component of the
degree/diploma must provide a minimum 3 years of full time study which
includes a minimum of 1100 clinical or practice hours)
• Must have minimum 3 years work experience as a Registered Nurse
• Must have current Nursing Registration in the country of residence
• Must demonstrate that they are fit for Registration with the Nursing
Council of New Zealand
• Achieve the IELTS score of 7.0 in each of the four bands (Listening,
Reading, Writing and Speaking) of IELTS (Academic Test)
Standard Procedures:
• Apply for Registration with the Nursing Council of NZ
• Apply for admission to the Competence Assessment Program (CAP)
course with approved Providers
• Procure a valid Job Offer from eligible employers in NZ based on the
qualifications, skills, work experience and IELTS scores (Immigranz
would recommend the eligible applicant to 3rd party recruitment
companies in NZ who would assist her/him to procure a valid Job
Offer from an eligible employer in NZ)
• The Job Offer would be a 2 years contract and require the applicant
to complete the CAP course successfully and get the Work Permit from
INZ • Apply for a Visitor visa (normally 3 month duration) to come to
New Zealand to complete the CAP course
• Reach NZ and successfully complete the CAP course
• Complete the Registration with the Nursing Council of NZ
• Apply for Work Permit with INZ on the basis of the Job Offer and
Nursing Registration (extend the Visitor Visa if needed till Work Permit
is granted)
• Apply for Permanent Residence under Skilled Migrant Category after
12
months of working in NZ as a Registered Nurse
