Separate channels for Urdu and English: Express news has a separate news channel for both Urdu and
English language thus covering majority of TV viewers those who prefers to watch news in Urdu and
those who prefers to watch news in Urdu. Express news has an edge over market leader Geo in this area
which only provides coverage in Urdu. According to a survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan 95 percent of
all Pakistani TV Viewers prefer Urdu language for news channels, only 3 percent say they watch news in
English while the remaining 2% either do not watch news or gave no response.

Strong Base: Express has a solid support based established due to its widely circulated Urdu language
newspaper which is also now available in e-form for online reading, this version is especially popular
among Pakistanis living outside Pakistan.

Technology: Usage of video conferencing during talk shows, good production quality and availability of
express news live online shows that express news is well-run with latest technology.

Weaknesses
Lagging behind Geo: Geo since its inception has taken news media by storm. Express news needs to
make lot of improvements to catch up with market leader Geo.

Unavailability of English news on their website indicates a weakness of express news.

Opportunities
Benefit from the robust growth of the Entertainment and Media sector: The future of the
entertainment industry will be decided on the interplay of a number of factors like consumerism,
advertising spend, content, pricing, technology and regulation.

Threats
Intense Competition due to growing number of competitors.

Retention of Employees is major threat as news agencies are constantly on a lookout to hire employees
from other news agencies by paying higher salary.

Slowdown in Pakistan economic growth: Any slowdown in Pakistan’s economic growth will reduce the
demand for the advertiser's products, which may lead to a cut in their ad budgets. This will have a
negative impact on its advertising revenues.
