Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, commonly referred to simply as Rio, is the capital city of the State
of Rio de Janeiro, the second largest city of Brazil and receives more interna-
tional visitors than any other city in the Southern Hemisphere. The city is Bra-
zil`s best known postcard, with the Sugar loaf and the Corcovado mountains. It´s
image is closely linked to attractive people, football and samba. Tucked between
the mountains and the sea, Rio is an exuberant city with captivating natural
beauty, shaped by its unusual geography and by the effervescence of its inhabi-
tant.

The Rio of the postcards is also Known for its natural settings, carnival celebra-
tions, samba, bossa nova, beaches such as Copacabana,Arpoador, Ipanema and
Leblon. Some of the most famous landmarks in addition to the beaches include
the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado mountain named one of
the New Seven Wonders of the World; Sugarloaf mountain with its cable car; the
