    prepare and publish International standards for all electrotechnology related aspects and has gone on to become a

    one stop shop for all smart grid standards. We have IEC-60870-5 and companion
    standards for Telecontrol, Teleprotection, and associated telecommunications for electric power systems. On the

    IEC 61850 to help overcome vendor locking. A serial


    automation side of substations, there exists

    communication protocol published by Modicon, MODBUS, is used with PLCs. ICCP or IEC
    60870-6/TASE.2, is the specification for data exchange over WAN. Know them, Embrace them.
